The built-up land represents an important type of an overall landscape. In this paper, the built-up land structure in the largest cities in the Czech Republic and some selected cities in the USA is analysed using the framework of statistical physics. We calculate the variance of the total area and of the count of the built-up land plots contained inside discs of different radii. In both cases, the variance as a function of the disc radius follows a power law with exponents that are comparable through different cities. The study is based on the cadastral data from the Czech Republic and on the building footprints from GIS data in the USA.

At the age of almost three quarters of a century, quantum mechanics is by all accounts a mature theory. There were times when it seemed that it had borne its best fruit already and would give way to investigation of deeper levels of matter. Today this sounds like rash thinking. Modern experimental techniques have led to discoveries of numerous new quantum effects in solid state, optics and elsewhere. Quantum mechanics is thus gradually becoming a basis for many branches of applied physics, in this way entering our everyday life. While the dynamic laws of quantum mechanics are well known, a proper theoretical understanding requires methods which would allow us to de rive the abundance of observed quantum effects from the first principles. In many cases the rich structure hidden in the Schr6dinger equation can be revealed only using sophisticated tools. This constitutes a motivation to investigate rigorous methods which yield mathematically well-founded properties of quantum systems.

S-transformation is a unitary transformation accomplishing the main part of the diagonalization of the interaction Hamiltonian in strong coupling theories. For a compact symmetry group the action of the S-transformation on the integrals of motion is derived.

Among approaches to defining the Feynman integral, various sequential methods are probably the most popular ones. Here we consider that one based on product formulae, the original idea of which belongs to Nelson71'. This method is powerful in the sense that it enables to prove the strict version of Feynman's basic dynamical formula for a wide class of poten tials^^/including time-dependent ones/4/in comparison with other known methods (see, eg, refs./5, 6/). 0n the other, hand, the method does not correspond exactly to Feynman's heuristic prescription because it replaces the exact action along poly gonal paths by its Riemannian approximation. Moreover, one can regard as an unsatisfactory feature that it employs the" equidistant" time-interval partitions only. In the present paper we show that the last mentioned sour ce of arbitrariness can be removed: the product formula for perturbations of propagators by
