We study the existence of Artin–Schreier curves with large a‑number. We show that Artin–Schreier curves with large a‑number can be written in certain forms and discuss their supersingularity. We also give a basis of the de Rham cohomology of Artin–Schreier curves. By computing the rank of the Hasse–Witt matrix of the curve, we also give bounds on the a‑number of trigonal curves of genus 5 in small characteristic.

We define Stasheff polytopes in the spaces of tropical points of cluster A -varieties. We study the supports of products of elements of canonical bases for cluster A -varieties. We prove that, for the cluster A -variety of type A , such supports are Stasheff polytopes.

This volume contains the written account of the Bonn seminar on arith-metic geometry 2003/2004. It gives a coherent exposition of the theory of intersections of modular correspondences. The focus of the seminar is the formula for the intersection number of arithmetic modular correspondences due to Gross and Keating. Other topics treated are Hurwitz's theorem on the intersection of modular correspondences over the field of complex numbers, and the relation of the arithmetic intersection numbers to Fourier coefficients of Siegel-Eisenstein series. Also included is background material on one-dimensional formal groups and their endomorphisms, and on quadratic forms over the ring of p-adic integers.

We study variants of the local models constructed by the second author and Zhu and consider corresponding integral models of Shimura varieties of abelian type. We determine all cases of good, resp. of semi-stable, reduction under tame ramification hypotheses.

In this paper, we study the <i></i>-ordinary locus of a Shimura variety with parahoric level structure. Under the axioms in [12], we show that <i></i>-ordinary locus is a union of certain maximal EkedahlKottwitzOortRapoport strata introduced in [12] and we give criteria on the density of the <i></i>-ordinary locus.
