We bootstrap N=(1,0) superconformal field theories in six dimensions, by analyzing the four-point function of flavor current multiplets. Assuming E_8 flavor group, we present universal bounds on the central charge C_T and the flavor central charge C_J . Based on the numerical data, we conjecture that the rank-one E-string theory saturates the universal lower bound on C_J , and numerically determine the spectrum of long multiplets in the rank-one E-string theory. We comment on the possibility of solving the higher-rank E-string theories by bootstrap and thereby probing M-theory on AdS_7×S^4/Z_2.

The two-dimensional supersymmetric gauged linear sigma model (GLSM) with abelian gauge groups and matter fields has provided many insights into string theory on Calabi--Yau manifolds of a certain type: complete intersections in toric varieties. In this paper, we consider two GLSM constructions with nonabelian gauge groups and charged matter whose infrared CFTs correspond to string propagation on determinantal Calabi-Yau varieties, furnishing another broad class of Calabi-Yau geometries in addition to complete intersections. We show that these two models -- which we refer to as the PAX and the PAXY model -- are dual descriptions of the same low-energy physics. Using GLSM techniques, we determine the quantum Kähler moduli space of these varieties and find no disagreement with existing results in the literature.

We prove that there does not exist any weak coupling limit in the space of superconformal field theories in five and six dimensions, based on an analysis of the representation theory of the corresponding superconformal algebras. Holographically, this implies that superstring theories on AdS6 and AdS7 do not admit tensionless limits. Finally, we discuss the implications of our result on the existence of an action for coincident M5-branes.

We study knots in 3d Chern-Simons theory with complex gauge group SL(N,C), in the context of its relation with 3d N=2 theory (the so-called 3d-3d correspondence). The defect has either co-dimension 2 or co-dimension 4 inside the 6d (2,0) theory, which is compactified on a 3-manifold M^. We identify such defects in various corners of the 3d-3d correspondence, namely in 3d SL(N,C) Chern-Simons theory, in 3d N=2 theory, in 5d N=2 super Yang-Mills theory, and in the M-theory holographic dual. We can make quantitative checks of the 3d-3d correspondence by computing partition functions at each of these theories. We investigate a class of supersymmetric quantum mechanical theories (with two supercharges) having tensor-valued degrees of freedom which are dominated by melon diagrams in the large N limit. One motivation was to examine the interplay between supersymmetry and melonic dominance and potential implications for building toy models of holography. We find a definite tension between supersymmetry (with dynamical bosons) and melonic dominance in this class of systems. More specifically, our theories attain a low energy non-supersymmetric conformal fixed point. The origin of supersymmetry breaking lies in the need to regularize bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom independently. We investigate various aspects of the low energy spectrum and also comment on related examples with different numbers of supercharges. Along the way we also derive some technical results for SL(2, ℝ) wavefunctions for fermionic excitations.
