We give a description of the completion of the manifold of all smooth Riemannian metrics on a fixed smooth, closed, finitedimensional, orientable manifold with respect to a natural metric called the L2 metric. The primary motivation for studying this problem comes from Teichm¨uller theory, where similar considerations lead to a completion of the well-known Weil-Petersson metric. We give an application of the main theorem to the completions of Teichm¨uller space with respect to a class of metrics that generalize the Weil-Petersson metric.

In the general, this article addresses the nature of, and relation between, canonical and log-canonical singularities of foliations by curves. The case of equivariance under a finite group action has several peculiarities, amongst which are examples from dimension 3 onward where no birational modification can be both Gorenstein and log-canonical. The article in the specific, i.e. a functorial resolution algorithm for foliated 3-folds in the 2-category of Deligne-Mumford champs, is thus not only optimal but natural.

We study the heat kernel of a regular symmetric Dirichlet form on a metric space with doubling measure, in particular, a connection between the properties of the jump measure and the long time behaviour of the heat kernel. Under appropriate optimal hypotheses, we obtain the Hölder regularity and lower estimates of the heat kernel.
