In this paper, we analyze the uniqueness of the sparse time frequency decomposition and investigate the eciency of the nonlinear matching pursuit method. Under the assumption of scale separation, we show that the sparse time frequency decomposition is unique up to an error that is determined by the scale separation property of the signal. We further show that the unique decomposition can be obtained approximately by the sparse time frequency decomposition using nonlinear matching pursuit.

This work is devoted to study the global behavior of viscous flows contained in a symmetric domain with complete slip boundary. In such scenario the boundary no longer provides friction and therefore the perturbation of angular velocity lacks decaying structure. In fact, we show the existence of uniformly rotating solutions as steady states for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. By manipulating the conservation law of angular momentum, we establish a suitable Korn's type inequality to control the perturbation and show the asymptotic stability of the uniformly rotating solutions with small angular velocity. In particular, the initial perturbation which preserves the angular momentum would decay exponentially in time and the solution to the Navier-Stokes equations converges to the steady state as time grows up.

This paper introduces algorithms for the decentralized low-rank matrix completion problem. Assume a low-rank matrix W = [W ₁ ,W ₂ , ...,W _L ]. In a network, each agent observes some entries of W  . In order to recover the unobserved entries of W via decentralized computation, we factorize the unknown matrix W as the product of a public matrix X, common to all agents, and a private matrix Y = [Y ₁ ,Y ₂ , ...,Y _L ], where Y  is held by agent . Each agent alternatively updates Y  and its local estimate of X while communicating with its neighbors toward a consensus on the estimate. Once this consensus is (nearly) reached throughout the network, each agent recovers W  = XY  , and thus W is recovered. The communication cost is scalable to the number of agents, and W  and Y  are kept private to agent to a certain extent. The algorithm is accelerated by extrapolation and compares favorably to the centralized

Blind source separation (BSS) methods are useful tools to recover or enhance individual speech sources from their mixtures in a multi-talker environment. A class of efficient BSS methods are based on the mutual exclusion hypothesis of the source signal Fourier spectra on the timefrequency (TF) domain, and subsequent data clustering and classification. Though such methodology is simple, the discontinuous decisions in the TF domain for classification often cause defects in the recovered signals in the time domain. The defects are perceived as unpleasant ringing sounds, the so called musical noise. Post-processing is desired for further quality enhancement. In this paper, an efficient musical noise reduction method is presented based on a convex model of time-domain sparse filters. The sparse filters are intended to cancel out the interference due to major sparse peaks in the mixing coefficients or physically the early arrival and high energy portion of the room impulse responses. This strategy is efficiently carried out by l1 regularization and the split Bregman method. Evaluations by both synthetic and room recorded speech and music data show that our method outperforms existing musical noise reduction methods in terms of objective and subjective measures. Our method can be used as a post-processing tool for more general and recent versions of TF domain BSS methods as well.
