The paper mainly discusses, based on the properties and related knowledge of continuous functions, the conditions that the graphs of separated binary polynomials are closed curves by the method of separation of variables. It also studies the properties of closed curves in the ways of analytic geometry, and draws a sucient and necessary condition to determine whether the graph of a separated binary polynomial is closed.

For projective conifold transitions between Calabi-Yau threefolds X and Y, with X close to Y in the moduli, we show that the combined information provided by the A model (Gromov--Witten theory in all genera) and B model (variation of Hodge structures) on X, linked along the vanishing cycles, determines the corresponding combined information on Y. Similar result holds in the reverse direction when linked with the exceptional curves.

The paper deals with the possibility to solve the heat equation backwards in time. More specifically, we treat the following problem. Given the temperature at a finite number of points of a homogeneous bar, how old can the heat distribution be? In the case that the temperature is given at equidistant points x_{1}, the problem is completely solved. In the case of nonequidistant x_{i}we find an upper bound for the age. Such a bound is also obtained when the information about the heat distribution is given by the value of a finite number of linear functionals.

A family of coordinates h for the Teichmller space of a compact surface with boundary was introduced by the second author. Mondello showed that the coordinate 0 can be used to produce a natural cell decomposition of the Teichmller space, invariant under the action of the mapping class group. In this paper, we show that, for any h 0, the coordinate h produces a natural cell decomposition of the Teichmller space.

A Tamed Transformation Method (TTM) cryptosystem was proposed by T.T.Moh in 1999. We describe how the first implementation scheme of the TTM system can be defeated. The computational complexity of our attack is 2^{33} computations on the finite field with 2^8 elements.
