We derive asymptotic expansion for the spectrum of Hamiltonians with a strong attractive interaction supported by a smooth surface in R 3, either infinite and asymptotically planar, or compact and closed. Its second term is found to be determined by a Schrdinger type operator with an effective potential expressed in terms of the interaction support curvatures.

Let <i>X, Y</i> be compact Hausdorff spaces and <i>E, F</i> be Banach spaces. A linear map <i>T: C(X, E) C(Y, F)</i> is separating if <i>Tf, Tg</i> have disjoint cozeroes whenever <i>f, g</i> have disjoint cozeroes. We prove that a biseparating linear bijection <i>T</i> (that is, <i>T</i> and <i>T</i>^-1 are separating) is a weighted composition operator <i>Tf = h f</i> o . Here, <i>h</i> is a function from <i>Y</i> into the set of invertible linear operators from <i>E</i> onto <i>F</i>, and , is a homeomorphism from <i>Y</i> onto <i>X</i>. We also show that <i>T</i> is bounded if and only if <i>h(y)</i> is a bounded operator from <i>E</i> onto <i>F</i> for all <i>y</i> in <i>Y</i>. In this case, <i>h</i> is continuous with respect to the strong operator topology.

We treat all the bivariate lack-of-memory (BLM) distributions in a unified approach and develop some new general properties of the BLM distributions, including joint moment generating function, product moments, and dependence structure. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the survival functions of BLM distributions to be totally positive of order two are given. Some previous results about specific BLM distributions are improved. In particular, we show that both the Marshall–Olkin survival copula and survival function are totally positive of all orders, regardless of parameters. Besides, we point out that Slepian’s inequality also holds true for BLM distributions.
