We propose the idea of building a secure hash using quadratic or higher degree multivariate polynomials over a finite field as the compression function. We analyze some security properties and potential feasibility, where the compression functions are randomly chosen high-degree polynomials, and show that under some plausible assumptions, high-degree polynomials as compression functions has good properties. Next, we propose to improve on the efficiency of the system by using some specially designed polynomials generated by a small number of random parameters, where the security of the system would then relies on stronger assumptions, and we give empirical evidence for the validity of using such polynomials.

In this paper we obtain sharp LiebThirring inequalities for a Schrdinger operator on semiaxis with a matrix potential and show how they can be used to other related problems. Among them are spectral inequalities on star graphs and spectral inequalities for Schrdinger operators on half-spaces with Robin boundary conditions.

At the age of almost three quarters of a century, quantum mechanics is by all accounts a mature theory. There were times when it seemed that it had borne its best fruit already and would give way to investigation of deeper levels of matter. Today this sounds like rash thinking. Modern experimental techniques have led to discoveries of numerous new quantum effects in solid state, optics and elsewhere. Quantum mechanics is thus gradually becoming a basis for many branches of applied physics, in this way entering our everyday life. While the dynamic laws of quantum mechanics are well known, a proper theoretical understanding requires methods which would allow us to de rive the abundance of observed quantum effects from the first principles. In many cases the rich structure hidden in the Schr6dinger equation can be revealed only using sophisticated tools. This constitutes a motivation to investigate rigorous methods which yield mathematically well-founded properties of quantum systems.

In this paper, we develop and analyze an adaptive multiscale approach for heterogeneous problems in perforated domains. We consider commonly used model problems including the Laplace equation, the elasticity equation, and the Stokes system in perforated regions. In many applications, these problems have a multiscale nature arising because of the perforations, their geometries, the sizes of the perforations, and configurations. Typical modeling approaches extract average properties in each coarse region, that encapsulate many perforations, and formulate a coarse-grid problem. In some applications, the coarse-grid problem can have a different form from the fine-scale problem, e.g. the coarse-grid system corresponding to a Stokes system in perforated domains leads to Darcy equations on a coarse grid. We investigate the problem of counting 1/16 Bogomol’nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) operators in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory at weak coupling. We present the complete set of 1/16 BPS operators in the infinite-N limit, which agrees with the counting of free BPS multigraviton states in the gravity dual AdS_5×S^5. Further, we conjecture that all 1/16 BPS operators in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory are of the multigraviton form, and give numerical evidence for this conjecture. We discuss the implication of our conjecture and the seeming failure in reproducing the entropy of large 1/16 BPS black holes in AdS_5.
