The paper is devoted to a model of a mesoscopic system consisting of a pair of parallel planar waveguides separated by an infinitely thin semitransparent boundary modeled by a transverse interaction. We develop the BirmanSchwinger theory for the corresponding generalized Schrdinger operator. The spectral properties become nontrivial if the barrier coupling is not invariant with respect to longitudinal translations, in particular, there are bound states if the barrier is locally more transparent in the mean and the coupling parameter reaches the same asymptotic value in both directions along the guide axis. We derive the weak-coupling expansion of the ground-state eigenvalue for the cases when the perturbation is small in the supremum and the <b>L</b>¹-norms. INDEX THEORY, ELLIPTIC CURVES AND LOOP GROUPS One can look at elliptic genus from several different points of view; from index theory, from representation theory of Kac-Moody affine Lie algebras or from the theory of elliptic functions and modular forms. Each of them shows us some quite different interesting features of ellitic genus. On the other hand we can also combine the forces of these three different mathematical fields to derive many interesting results in topology such as rigidity, divisibility and vanishing of topological invariants..

A nonlocally weighted soft-constrained natural gradient iterative method is introduced for robust blind separation in reverberant environment. The nonlocal weighting of the iterations promotes stability and convergence of the algorithm for long demixing filters. The scaling degree of freedom is controlled by soft-constraints built into the auxiliary difference equations. The small divisor problem of iterations in silence durations of speech is resolved. Computations on synthetic speech mixtures based on measured binaural room impulse responses show that the algorithm achieves higher signal-to-inteference ratio improvement than existing method (natural gradient time domain algorithm) in an office size room with reverberation time over 0.5 second.

We propose a holographic entanglement entropy prescription for general states and regions in two models of holography beyond AdS/CFT known as flat3/BMSFT and (W)AdS3/WCFT. Flat3/BMSFT is a candidate of holography for asymptotically flat three-dimensional spacetimes, while (W)AdS3/WCFT is relevant in the study of black holes in the real world. In particular, the boundary theories are examples of quantum field theories that feature an infinite dimensional symmetry group but break Lorentz invariance. Our holographic entanglement entropy proposal is given by the area of a swing surface that consists of ropes, which are null geodesics emanating from the entangling surface at the boundary, and a bench, which is a spacelike geodesic connecting the ropes. The proposal is supported by an extension of the Lewkowycz-Maldacena argument, reproduces previous results based on the Rindler method, and satisfies the first law of entanglement entropy.
