In this paper, we study a class of sphere and torus correlation functions in the W_N minimal model. In particular, we show that a large class of exact sphere three-point functions of W_N primaries, derived using affine Toda theory, exhibit large N factorization. This allows us to identify some fundamental particles and their bound states in the holographic dual, including light states. We also derive the torus two-point function of basic primaries, by directly constructing the relevant conformal blocks. The result can then be analytically continued to give the Lorentzian thermal two-point functions.

The fundamental problem of nonlinear filtering theory is how to solve robust D-M-Z equation in real time and in memoryless manner. This paper describes a new real time algorithm which reduces the nonlinear filtering problem to off-line computations. Our algorithm gives convergent solutions in both pointwise sense and L/sup 2/ in case that the drift term and observation dynamic term have linear growths. The algorithm presented is slightly better than that given in our previous paper (2000).

Recent technical advances lead to the coupling of PET and MRI scanners, enabling one to acquire functional and anatomical data simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a tight frame based PET-MRI joint reconstruction model via the joint sparsity of tight frame coefficients. In addition, a nonconvex balanced approach is adopted to take the different regularities of PET and MRI images into account. To solve the nonconvex and nonsmooth model, a proximal alternating minimization algorithm is proposed, and the global convergence is present based on the Kurdyka--Łojasiewicz property. Finally, the numerical experiments show that our proposed models achieve better performance over the existing PET-MRI joint reconstruction models.

The chapter discusses the equivariant loop theorem for three-dimensional manifolds that is needed in settling the Smith conjecture and reviews the existence theorems for minimal surfaces. The equivariant version of the loop theorem says that there are a finite number of properly embedded disks in <i>M</i> that satisfy the required properties. The loop theorem respects the action of the group <i>G</i> in a suitable manner. The chapter puts a metric on <i>M</i> so that the group <i>G</i> acts isometrically and so that <i>M</i> is convex with respect to the outward normal. Then with respect to this metric, the existence of an immersed disk <i>D</i>₁ is demonstrated, in <i>M</i> whose boundary <i> D₁</i>, represents a nontrivial element in ₁(<i>S</i>) and whose area is minimal among all such disks.
