Multivariate Cryptography, as one of the main candidates for establishing post-quantum cryptosystems, provides strong, efficient and well-understood digital signature schemes such as UOV, Rainbow, and Gui. While Gui provides very short signatures, it is, for efficiency reasons, restricted to very small finite fields, which makes it hard to scale it to higher levels of security and leads to large key sizes. In this paper we propose a signature scheme called HMFEv (“Hidden Medium Field Equations”), which can be seen as a multivariate version of HFEv. We obtain our scheme by applying the Vinegar Variation to the MultiHFE encryption scheme of Chen et al. We show both theoretically and by experiments that our new scheme is secure against direct and Rank attacks. In contrast to other schemes of the HFE family such as Gui, HMFEv can be defined over arbitrary base fields and therefore is much more efficient in terms of both performance and memory requirements. Our scheme is therefore a good candidate for the upcoming standardization of post-quantum signature schemes.

We propose a primal-dual continuation approach for the capacitated multi-facility Weber problem (CMFWP) based on its nonlinear second-order cone program (SOCP) reformulation. The main idea of the approach is to reformulate the CMFWP as a nonlinear SOCP with a nonconvex objective function, and then introduce a logarithmic barrier term and a quadratic proximal term into the objective to construct a sequence of convexified subproblems. By this, this class of nondifferentiable and nonconvex optimization problems is converted into the solution of a sequence of nonlinear convex SOCPs. In this paper, we employ the semismooth Newton method proposed in Kanzow etal. (SIAM Journal of Optimization 20:297320, 2009) to solve the KKT system of the resulting convex SOCPs. We propose a new nonmonotone filter method to promote global and fast local convergence for sequential quadratic programming algorithms. Our method uses two filters: a standard, global g-filter for global convergence, and a local nonmonotone l-filter that allows us to establish fast local convergence. We show how to switch between the two filters efficiently, and we prove global and superlinear local convergence. A special feature of the proposed method is that it does not require second-order correction steps. We present preliminary numerical results comparing our implementation with a classical filter SQP method.

We study the minimal length elements in some double cosets of Coxeter groups and use them to study Lusztig's <i>G</i>-stable pieces and the generalization of <i>G</i>-stable pieces introduced by Lu and Yakimov. We also use them to study the minimal length elements in a conjugacy class of a finite Coxeter group and prove a conjecture in [M. Geck, S. Kim, G. Pfeiffer, Minimal length elements in twisted conjugacy classes of finite Coxeter groups, J. Algebra 229 (2) (2000) 570600].

We consider a model semilinear reaction-diffusion system with cubic nonlinear reaction terms and small spatially decaying initial data on R 1. The model system is motivated by the thermal-diffusive system in combustion, and it reduces to a scalar reaction-diffusion equation with Zeldovich nonlinearity when the Lewis number is one and proper initial data are prescribed. For scalar equations of similar type it is well known that while a nonlinearity of degree greater than three (supercritical case) has no effect for large times a cubic nonlinearity qualitatively changes the long time behaviour. The latter case has been treated in the literature by a rescaling method under the additional assumption of smallness of the nonlinearity. Although for our system the cubic nonlinearity is also critical we establish large time behaviour when the nonlinearity is not necessarily small which essentially differs from the supercritical case.
