The goal of this paper is to develop a novel semi-implicit spectral deferred correction (SDC) time marching method. The method can be used in a large class of problems, especially for highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) without easily separating of stiff and non-stiff components, which is more general and efficient comparing with traditional semi-implicit SDC methods. The proposed semi-implicit SDC method is based on low order time integration methods and corrected iteratively. The order of accuracy is increased for each additional iteration. And we also explore its local truncation error analytically. This SDC method is intended to be combined with the method of lines, which provides a flexible framework to develop high order semi-implicit time marching methods for nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs). In this paper we mainly focus on the applications of the nonlinear PDEs with higher order spatial derivatives, e.g. convection diffusion equation, the surface diffusion and Willmore flow of graphs, the Cahn– Hilliard equation, the Cahn–Hilliard–Brinkman system and the phase field crystal equation. Coupled with the local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) spatial discretization, the fully discrete schemes are all high order accurate in both space and time, and stable numerically with the time step proportional to the spatial mesh size. Numerical experiments are carried out to illustrate the accuracy and capability of the proposed semi-implicit SDC method.

We prove that the algebra of singular cochains on a smooth manifold, equipped with the cup product, is equivalent to the A1 structure on the Lagrangian Floer cochain group associated to the zero section in the cotangent bundle. More generally, given embeddings with isomorphic normal bundles of a closed manifold B into manifolds Q1 and Q2, we construct a differential graded category from the singular cochains of these spaces, and prove that it is equivalent to the A1 category obtained by considering exact Lagrangian embeddings of Q1 and Q2 which intersect cleanly along B.

We propose the backward phase flow method to implement the FourierBrosIagolnitzer (FBI)-transform-based Eulerian Gaussian beam method for solving the Schrdinger equation in the semi-classical regime. The idea of Eulerian Gaussian beams has been first proposed in [12]. In this paper we aim at two crucial computational issues of the Eulerian Gaussian beam method: how to carry out long-time beam propagation and how to compute beam ingredients rapidly in phase space. By virtue of the FBI transform, we address the first issue by introducing the reinitialization strategy into the Eulerian Gaussian beam framework. Essentially we reinitialize beam propagation by applying the FBI transform to wavefields at intermediate time steps when the beams become too wide. Our main result gives necessary and sufficient conditions, in terms of Fourier transforms, for an ideal in the convolution algebra of spherical integrable functions on the (conformal) automorphism group of the unit disk to be dense, or to have as closure the closed ideal of functions with integral zero. This is then used to prove a generalization of Furstenberg's theorem, which characterizes harmonic functions on the unit disk by a mean value property, and a “two circles” Morera type theorem (earlier announced by Agranovskii).
