We propose a general method that parameterizes general surfaces with complex (possible branching) topology using Riemann surface structure. Rather than evolve the surface geometry to a plane or sphere, we instead use the fact that all orientable surfaces are Riemann surfaces and admit conformal structures, which induce special curvilinear coordinate systems on the surfaces. We can then automatically partition the surface using a critical graph that connects zero points in the global conformal structure on the surface. The trajectories of iso-parametric curves canonically partition a surface into patches. Each of these patches is either a topological disk or a cylinder and can be conformally mapped to a parallelogram by integrating a holomorphic I-form defined on the surface. In geometric modeling and processing, computer graphics and computer vision, smooth surfaces are approximated by discrete triangular meshes reconstructed from sample points on the surfaces. A fundamental problem is to design rigorous algorithms to guarantee the geometric approximation accuracy by controlling the sampling density. This paper gives explicit formulae to the bounds of Hausdorff distance, normal distance and Riemannian metric distortion between the smooth surface and the discrete mesh in terms of principle curvature and the radii of geodesic circum-circle of the triangles. These formulae can be directly applied to design sampling density for data acquisitions and surface reconstructions. Furthermore, we prove that the meshes induced from the Delaunay triangulations of the dense samples on a smooth surface are convergent to the smooth surface under both Hausdorff distance and normal

The free boundary value problem in obstacle problem for von Krmn equations is studied. By using the method of complementarity analysis, Rockafellar's theory of duality is generalized to the nonlinear variational problems and a complementarity theory of obstacle problem for von Krmn plates is established. We prove that the uniqueness and existence of solution directly depend on a complementary gap function. Moreover, a generalized dual extreme principle is established. We prove that the nonlinear primal variational inequality problem is eventually equivalent to a semi-quadratic dual optimization problem defined on a statically admissible space. This equivalence can be used to develop an effective numerical method for solving nonlinear free boundary value problems.

We give close formulas for the counting functions of rational curves on complete intesection Calabi-Yau manifolds in terms of special solutions of generalized hypergeometric differential systems. For the one modulus cases we derive a differential equation for the Mirror map, which can be viewed as a generalization of the Schwarzian equation. We also derive a nonlinear seventh order differential equation which directly governs the Prepotential.
