We present an automatic reconstruction pipeline for large scale urban scenes from aerial images captured by a camera mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle. Using state-of-the-art Structure from Motion and Multi-View Stereo algorithms, we first generate a dense point cloud from the aerial images. Based on the statistical analysis of the footprint grid of the buildings, the point cloud is classified into different categories (i.e., buildings, ground, trees, and others). Roof structures are extracted for each individual building using Markov random field optimization. Then, a contour refinement algorithm based on pivot point detection is utilized to refine the contour of patches. Finally, polygonal mesh models are extracted from the refined contours. Experiments on various scenes as well as comparisons with state-of-the-art reconstruction methods demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

Recovering low-rank structures via eigenvector perturbation analysis is a common problem in statistical machine learning, such as in factor analysis, community detection, ranking, matrix completion, among others. While a large variety of results provide tight bounds on the average errors between empirical and population statistics of eigenvectors, fewer results are tight for entrywise analyses, which are critical for a number of problems such as community detection and ranking.

Let$E$ç$S$^{1}be a set with Minkowski dimension$d(E)1$. We consider the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function, the Hilbert transform and the maximal Hilbert transform along the directions of$E$. The main result of this paper shows that these operators are bounded on$L$_{$rad$}^{$p$}(R^{2}) for$p>1+d(E)$and unbounded when$p<1+d(E)$. We also give some end-point results.

A two species interacting system motivated by the density functional theory for triblock copolymers contains long range interaction that affects the two species differently. In a two species periodic assembly of discs, the two species appear alternately on a lattice. The minimal two species periodic assembly is the one with the least energy per lattice cell area. There is a parameter $b$ in $[0,1]$ and the type of the lattice associated with the minimal assembly varies depending on $b$. There are several threshold defined by a number $B=0.1867...$ If $b \in [0, B)$, the minimal assembly is associated with a rectangular lattice whose ratio of the longer side and the shorter side is in $[\sqrt{3}, 1)$; if $b \in [B, 1-B]$, the minimal assembly is associated with a square lattice; if $b \in (1-B, 1]$, the minimal assembly is associated with a rhombic lattice with an acute angle in $[\frac{\pi}{3}, \frac{\pi}{2})$. Only when $b=1$, this rhombic lattice is the hexagonal lattice. None of the other values of $b$ yields the hexagonal lattice, a sharp contrast to the situation for one species interacting systems, where the hexagonal lattice is ubiquitously observed.

We undertake a systematic study of the infinitesimal geometry of the Thurston metric, showing that the topology, convex geometry and metric geometry of the tangent and cotangent spheres based at any marked hyperbolic surface representing a point in Teichmüller space can recover the marking and geometry of this marked surface. We then translate the results concerning the infinitesimal structures to global geometric statements for the Thurston metric, most notably deriving rigidity statements for the Thurston metric analogous to the celebrated Royden theorem.
