A method for exploring the structure of populations of complex objects, such as images, is considered. The objects are summarized by feature vectors. The statistical backbone is Principal Component Analysis in the space of feature vectors. Visual insights come from representing the results in the original data space. In an ophthalmological example, endemic outliers motivate the development of a bounded influence approach to PCA.

In this paper, we construct a new suboptimal filter by deriving the Ito's stochastic differential equations of the estimation of higher order central moments satisfy and imposing some conditions to form a closed system. The essentially infinite-dimensional cubic sensor problem has been investigated in detail numerically to illustrate the reasonableness of the imposed conditions, and the numerical experiments support our discussion. A 2-dimensional polynomial filtering problem has also been experimented.

This paper is devoted to exploiting the restrictions of Riesz–Morrey potentials on either unbounded or bounded domains in Euclidean spaces.

We explain how the classical notions of Fisher information of a random variable and Fisher information matrix of a random vector can be extended to a much broader setting. We also show that Stam’s inequality for Fisher information and Shannon entropy, as well as the more generalized versions proved earlier by the authors, are all special cases of more general sharp inequalities satisfied by random vectors. The extremal random vectors, which we call generalized Gaussians, contain Gaussians as a limiting case but are noteworthy because they are heavy- tailed.
