Under the diffusion scaling and a scaling assumption on the microscopic component, a non-classical fluid dynamic system was derived in\cite {BGLY} that is related to the system of ghost effect derived in\cite {Sone-2} in different settings. This paper aims to justify this limit system for a non-trivial background profile with slab symmetry. The result reveals not only the diffusion phenomena in the temperature and density, but also the flow of higher order in Knudsen number due to the gradient of the temperature. Precisely, we show that the solution to the Boltzmann equation converges to a diffusion wave with decay rates in both Knudsen number and time.

In this paper, we prove that every invertible 2-local or local automorphism of a simple generalized Witt algebra over any field of characteristic 0 is an automorphism. Furthermore, every 2-local or local automorphism of Witt algebras W_n is an automorphism for all n∈N. But some simple generalized Witt algebras indeed have 2-local (and local) automorphisms that are not automorphisms.

In this paper, we design and analyze third order positivity-preserving discontinuous Galerkin (DG) schemes for solving the time-dependent system of Poisson–Nernst–Planck (PNP) equations, which have found much use in diverse applications. Our DG method with Euler forward time discretization is shown to preserve the positivity of cell averages at all time steps. The positivity of numerical solutions is then restored by a scaling limiter in reference to positive weighted cell averages. The method is also shown to preserve steady states. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the third order accuracy and illustrate the positivity-preserving property in both one and two dimensions.

We extend recent existence results for compact constant mean curvature normal geodesic graphs with boundary in space forms in a unified way to a large class of ambient spaces. That extension is achieved by solving a constant mean curvature existence problem in a general setting presented in two isometrically equivalent versions.
