The central subspace of a pair of random variables $(y,x) \in \mathbb{R}^{p+1}$ is the minimal subspace $\mathcal{S}$ such that $y \perp \hspace{-2mm} \perp x\mid P_{\mathcal{S}}x$. In this paper, we consider the minimax rate of estimating the central space of the multiple index models $y=f(\beta_{1}^{\tau}x,\beta_{2}^{\tau}x,...,\beta_{d}^{\tau}x,\epsilon)$ with at most $s$ active predictors where $x \sim N(0,I_{p})$. We first introduce a large class of models depending on the smallest non-zero eigenvalue $\lambda$ of $var(\mathbb{E}[x|y])$, over which we show that an aggregated estimator based on the SIR procedure converges at rate $d\wedge((sd+s\log(ep/s))/(n\lambda))$. We then show that this rate is optimal in two scenarios: the single index models; and the multiple index models with fixed central dimension $d$ and fixed $\lambda$. By assuming a technical conjecture, we can show that this rate is also optimal for multiple index models with bounded dimension of the central space. We believe that these (conditional) optimal rate results bring us meaningful insights of general SDR problems in high dimensions.

For a Landau–Ginzburg space ([Cn/G], W), we construct Witten’s top Chern class as an algebraic cycle using cosection localized virtual cycles in the case where all sectors are narrow, verify all axioms of this class, and derive an explicit formula for it in the free case. We prove that this construction is equivalent to the constructions of Polishchuk–Vaintrob, Chiodo, and Fan– Jarvis–Ruan.

In this paper, we first derive the CR analogue of matrix Li–Yau–Hamilton inequality for the positive solution to the CR heat equation in a closed pseudohermitian (2n + 1)-manifold with nonnegative bisectional curvature and bitorsional tensor. We then obtain the CR Li–Yau gradient estimate in the Heisenberg group. We apply this CR gradient estimate and extend the CR matrix Li–Yau–Hamilton inequality to the case of the Heisenberg group. As a consequence, we derive the Hessian comparison property for the Heisenberg group.

Twisted supergravity is supergravity in a background where the bosonic ghost field takes a non-zero value. This is the supergravity counterpart of the familiar concept of twisting supersymmetric field theories. In this paper, we give conjectural descriptions of type IIA and IIB supergravity in 10 dimensions. Our conjectural descriptions are in terms of the closed-string field theories associated to certain topological string theories, and we conjecture that these topological string theories are twists of the physical string theories. For type IIB, the results of [CL15] show that our candidate twisted supergravity theory admits a unique quantization in perturbation theory. This is despite the fact that the theories, like the original physical theories, are non-renormalizable. Although we do not prove our conjectures, we amass considerable evidence. We find that our candidates for the twisted supergravity theories contain the residual supersymmetry one would expect. We also prove (using heavily a result of Baulieu [Bau10]) the open string version of our conjecture: the theory living on a brane in the topological string theory is a twist of the maximally supersymmetric gauge theory liv- ing on the brane in the physical string theory.

We study the effective Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization theory for chiral deformation of two dimensional conformal field theories. We establish an exact correspondence between renormalized quantum master equations for effective functionals and Maurer-Cartan equations for chiral vertex operators. The generating functions are proven to have modular property with mild holo- morphic anomaly. As an application, we construct an exact solution of quan- tum B-model (BCOV theory) in complex one dimension that solves the higher genus mirror symmetry conjecture on elliptic curves.
