We prove that classical solution of the spatially inhomogeneous and angular non-cutoff Boltzmann equation is C with respect to all variables, locally in the space and time variables. The proof relies on a generalized uncertainty principle, some improved upper bound and coercivity estimates on the nonlinear collision operator, and some subtle analysis on the commutators between the collision operators and some appropriately chosen pseudo-differential operators. We give a partial converse to [8, Theorem 1.3] (as a resolution of [2, Problem 8.4] for the quasiconformal Q-composition) for Q0<α<2−1(Rn≥2), and yet demonstrate that if f:R2→R2 is a homeomorphism then the boundedness of u↦u∘f on Q2−1<α<1(R2)⊂BMO(R2) yields the quasiconformality of f.

From a variational perspective, we derive a series of magnetization and quantum spin current systems coupled via an “s-d” potential term, including the Schrödinger--Landau--Lifshitz--Maxwell system, the Pauli--Landau--Lifshitz system, and the Schrödinger--Landau--Lifshitz system with successive simplifications. For the latter two systems, we propose using the time splitting spectral method for the quantum spin current and the Gauss--Seidel projection method for the magnetization. Accuracy of the time splitting spectral method applied to the Pauli equation is analyzed and verified by numerous examples. Moreover, behaviors of the Schrödinger--Landau--Lifshitz system in different “s-d” coupling regimes are explored numerically.

We prove the existence of reaction-diffusion traveling fronts in mean zero space-time periodic shear flows for nonnegative reactions including the classical KPP (Kolmogorov-Petrovsky-Piskunov) nonlinearity. For the KPP nonlinearity, the minimal front speed is characterized by a variational principle involving the principal eigenvalue of a space-time periodic parabolic operator. Analysis of the variational principle shows that adding a mean-zero space time periodic shear flow to an existing mean zero space-periodic shear flow leads to speed enhancement. Computation of KPP minimal speeds is performed based on the variational principle and a spectrally accurate discretization of the principal eigenvalue problem. It shows that the enhancement is monotone decreasing in temporal shear frequency, and that the total enhancement from pure reaction-diffusion obeys quadratic and linear laws at small and large shear amplitudes.

In this work, we give a perturbation theorem for strong polynomial solutions to the zero surface tension Hele-Shaw equation driven by injection or suction, the so called Polubarinova–Galin equation. This theorem enables us to explore properties of solutions with initial functions close to polynomials. Applications of this theorem are given in the suction and injection cases. In the former case, we show that if the initial domain is close to a disk, most of the fluid will be sucked before the strong solution blows up. In the latter case, we obtain precise large-time rescaling behaviors for large data to Hele-Shaw flows in terms of invariant Richardson complex moments. This rescaling behavior result generalizes a recent result regarding large-time rescaling behavior for small data in terms of moments. As a byproduct of a theorem in this paper, a short proof of existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to the Polubarinova–Galin equation is given.
