We show that a family $\mathcal{F}$ of analytic functions in the unit disk ${\mathbb{D}}$ all of whose zeros have multiplicity at least$k$and which satisfy a condition of the form $$f^n(z)f^{(k)}(xz)\ne1$$ for all $z\in{\mathbb{D}}$ and $f\in\mathcal{F}$ (where$n$≥3,$k$≥1 and 0<|$x$|≤1) is normal at the origin. The proof relies on a modification of Nevanlinna theory in combination with the Zalcman–Pang rescaling method. Furthermore we prove the corresponding Picard-type theorem for entire functions and some generalizations.

We study the wellposedness theory for the MHD boundary layer. The boundary layer equations are governed by the Prandtltype equations that are derived from the incompressible MHD system with nonslip boundary condition on the velocity and perfectly conducting condition on the magnetic field. Under the assumption that the initial tangential magnetic field is not zero, we establish the localitime existence, uniqueness of solutions for the nonlinear MHD boundary layer equations. Compared with the wellposedness theory of the classical Prandtl equations for which the monotonicity condition of the tangential velocity plays a crucial role, this monotonicity condition is not needed for the MHD boundary layer. This justifies the physical understanding that the magnetic field has a stabilizing effect on MHD boundary layer in rigorous mathematics. 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

We study the initial value problem of the thermal-diffusive combustion systemu 1, t= u 1, x, x u 1 u 2 2, u 2, t= du 2, xx+ u 1 u 2 2, x R 1, for non-negative spatially decaying initial data of arbitrary size and for any positive constantd. We show that if the initial data decay to zero sufficiently fast at infinity, then the solution (u 1, u 2) converges to a self-similar solution of the reduced systemu 1, t= u 1, xx u 1 u 2 2, u 2, t= du 2, xx, in the large time limit. In particular, u 1 decays to zero like O (t 1/2 ), where&gt; 0 is an anomalous exponent depending on the initial data, andu 2 decays to zero with normal rate O (t 1/2). The idea of the proof is to combine the a priori estimates for the decay of global solutions with the renormalization group method for establishing the self-similarity of the solutions in the large time limit.
