We consider the kinetic Fokker-Planck equation with a class of general force. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a positive normalized equilibrium (in the case of a gen- eral force) and establish some exponential rate of convergence to the equilibrium (and the rate can be explicitly computed). Our results improve results about classical force to general force case. Our result also improve the rate of convergence for the Fitzhugh-Nagumo equation from non-quantitative to quantitative explicit rate.

We present and analyze two numerical methods for the logarithmic Schrödinger equation (LogSE) consisting of a regularized splitting method and a regularized conservative Crank–Nicolson finite difference method (CNFD). In order to avoid numerical blow-up and/or to suppress round-off error due to the logarithmic nonlinearity in the LogSE, a regularized logarithmic Schrödinger equation (RLogSE) with a small regularized parameter 0<ε≪1 is adopted to approximate the LogSE with linear convergence rate O(ε). Then we use the Lie–Trotter splitting integrator to solve the RLogSE and establish its error bound O(τ^{1/2}ln(ε^{−1})) with τ>0 the time step, which implies an error bound at O(ε+τ^{1/2}ln(ε^{−1})) for the LogSE by the Lie–Trotter splitting method. In addition, the CNFD is also applied to discretize the RLogSE, which conserves the mass and energy in the discretized level. Numerical results are reported to confirm our error bounds and to demonstrate rich and complicated dynamics of the LogSE.

We consider a one-dimensional model biodegradation system consisting of two reactionadvection equations for nutrient and pollutant concentrations and a rate equation for biomass. The hydrodynamic dispersion is ignored. Under an explicit condition on the decay and growth rates of biomass, the system can be approximated by two component models by setting biomass kinetics to equilibrium. We derive closed form solutions for constant speed traveling fronts for the reduced two component models and compare their profiles in homogeneous media. For a spatially random velocity field, we introduce travel time and study statistics of degradation fronts via representations in terms of the travel time probability density function (<i>pdf</i>) and the traveling front profiles. We look for bounded periodic solutions for a parametric fractional problem involving a continuous nonlinearity with subcritical growth. By using a variant of Caffarelli and Silvestre extension method adapted to the periodic case and variational tools we prove the existence of at least three bounded periodic solutions when the parameter varies in an appropriate range.
