We study a partially linearized version of the relative trace formula for the arithmetic Gan--Gross--Prasad conjecture for the unitary group U(V). The linear factor in this relative trace formula provides an SL_2-symmetry which allows us to prove by induction the arithmetic fundamental lemma over Q_p when p is odd and p ≥ dim V.

We construct the Frobenius structure on a rigid connection Be_{\hat G} on G_m for a split reductive group \hat G introduced by Frenkel-Gross. These data form a \hat G-valued overconvergent F-isocrystal Be^†_{\hat G} on G_{m,F_p}, which is the p-adic companion of the Kloosterman \hat G-local system Kl_{\hat G} constructed by Heinloth-Ngô-Yun. By studying the structure of the underlying differential equation, we calculate the monodromy group of Be^†_{\hat G} when \hat G is almost simple (which recovers the calculation of monodromy group of Kl_{\hat G} due to Katz and Heinloth–Ngô–Yun), and prove a conjecture of Heinloth-Ngô-Yun on the functoriality between different Kloosterman \hat G-local systems. We show that the Frobenius Newton polygons of Kl_{\hat G} are generically ordinary for every \hat G and are everywhere ordinary on |G_{m,F_p}| when \hat G is classical or G_2.

We introduce a new technique for isolating components on the spectral side of the trace formula. By applying it to the Jacquet--Rallis relative trace formula, we complete the proof of the global Gan--Gross--Prasad conjecture and its refinement Ichino--Ikeda conjecture for U(n)×U(n+1) in the stablecase.

We exhibit the first examples of hyperbolic three-manifolds for which the Seiberg-Witten equations do not admit any irreducible solution. Our approach relies on hyperbolic geometry in an essential way; it combines an explicit upper bound for the first eigenvalue on coexact 1-forms λ_1^* on rational homology spheres which admit irreducible solutions together with a version of the Selberg trace formula relating the spectrum of the Laplacian on coexact 1-forms with the volume and complex length spectrum of a hyperbolic three-manifold. Using these relationships, we also provide precise numerical bounds on λ_1^* for several hyperbolic rational homology spheres.

We study the geometry of the p‑adic analogues of the complex analytic period spaces first introduced by Griffiths. More precisely, we prove the Fargues–Rapoport conjecture for p‑adic period domains: for a reductive group G over a p‑adic field and a minuscule cocharacter μ of G, the weakly admissible locus coincides with the admissible one if and only if the Kottwitz set B(G,μ) is fully Hodge–Newton decomposable.
