We use a small positive parameter to change the totalvariation function for unconstrainedMRimage reconstruction to a strictly convex perturbed function. Bregman iteration is applied to solve the modified total-variation MR image (TVMRI) reconstruction problem. A lagged diffusivity fixed-point algorithm is applied to solve the minimization problem in the Bregman iteration. We use the periodic boundary condition and a Fourier transform to accelerate TVMRI reconstruction.RealMR images are used to test the approach in numerical experiments. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is very efficient for TVMRI reconstruction.

Simulating complex processes in fractured media requires some type of model reduction. Well-known approaches include multi-continuum techniques, which have been commonly used in approximating subgrid effects for flow and transport in fractured media. Our goal in this paper is to (1) show a relation between multi-continuum approaches and Generalized Multiscale Finite Element Method (GMsFEM) and (2) to discuss coupling these approaches for solving problems in complex multiscale fractured media. The GMsFEM, a systematic approach, constructs multiscale basis functions via local spectral decomposition in pre-computed snapshot spaces. We show that GMsFEM can automatically identify separate fracture networks via local spectral problems. We discuss the relation between these basis functions and continuums in multi-continuum methods. In this paper, we consider an interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method for the time-dependent Maxwell’s equations in cold plasma. In Huang and Li (J. Sci. Comput., 42 (2009), 321–340), for both semi and fully discrete DG schemes, we proved error estimates which are optimal in the energy norm, but sub-optimal in the L2-norm. Here by filling this gap, we show that these schemes are optimally convergent in the L2-norm on quasi-uniform tetrahedral meshes if the solution is sufficiently smooth.

Analysis and extraction of strongly frequency modulated signals have been a challenging problem for Adaptive Data Analysis methods; e.g., Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) [13]. In fact, many of the Newtonian dynamical systems, including conservative mechanical systems, are sources of signals with low to strong levels of frequency modulation. Analysis of such signals is an important issue in system identification problems. In this paper, we present a novel method to accurately extract Intrawave Signals. This method is a descendant of Sparse Time-Frequency Representation (STFR) methods [8, 7]. We will present numerical examples to show the performance of this new algorithm. Theoretical analysis of convergence of the algorithm is also presented as a support for the method. We will show that the algorithm is stable to noise perturbation, as well.

The authors establish error estimates for recently developed finite-element methods for incompressible viscous flow in domains with no-slip boundary conditions. The methods arise by discretization of a well-posed extended Navier-Stokes dynamics for which pressure is determined from current velocity and force fields. The methods use C1 elements for velocity and C0 elements for pressure. A stability estimate is proved for a related finite-element projection method close to classical time-splitting methods of Orszag, Israeli, DeVille and Karniadakis.
