We present a 3D topological picture-language for quantum information. Our approach combines charged excitations carried by strings, with topological properties that arise from embedding the strings in the interior of a 3D manifold with boundary. A quon is a composite that acts as a particle. Specifically, a quon is a hemisphere containing a neutral pair of open strings with opposite charge. We interpret multiquons and their transformations in a natural way. We obtain a type of relation, a string–genus “joint relation,” involving both a string and the 3D manifold. We use the joint relation to obtain a topological interpretation of the C* Hopf algebra relations, which are widely used in tensor networks. We obtain a 3D representation of the controlled NOT (CNOT) gate that is considerably simpler than earlier work, and a 3D topological protocol for teleportation.

We introduce block maps for subfactors and study their dynamic systems. We prove that the limit points of the dynamic system are positive multiples of biprojections and zero. For the \mathbb{Z}_2 case, the asymptotic phenomenon of the block map coincides with that of the 2D Ising model.The study of block maps requires a further development of our recent work on the Fourier analysis of subfactors.We generalize the notion of sum set estimates in additive combinatorics for subfactors and prove the exact inverse sum set theorem. Using this new method, we characterize the extremal pairs of Young's inequality for subfactors, as well as the extremal operators of the Hausdorff-Young inequality.

We study the multiplicative Hilbert matrix, i.e. the infinite matrix with entries (mn−−−√log(mn))−1 for m,n≥2. This matrix was recently introduced within the context of the theory of Dirichlet series, and it was shown that the multiplicative Hilbert matrix has no eigenvalues and that its continuous spectrum coincides with [0,π]. Here we prove that the multiplicative Hilbert matrix has no singular continuous spectrum and that its absolutely continuous spectrum has multiplicity one. Our argument relies on spectral perturbation theory and scattering theory. Finding an explicit diagonalisation of the multiplicative Hilbert matrix remains an interesting open problem.

The analyticity of the Stokes semigroup with the Dirichlet boundary condition is established in spaces of bounded functions when the domain occupied with fluid is bounded or more generally admissible which admits a special estimate for the Helmholtz decomposition. The proof is based on a blow-up argument. This is the first proof of the analyticity in spaces of bounded functions which was left open more than thirty years.

We aim to maximize the number of first-quadrant lattice points in a convex domain with respect to reciprocal stretching in the coordinate directions. The optimal domain is shown to be asymptotically balanced, meaning that the stretch factor approaches 1 as the “radius” approaches infinity. In particular, the result implies that among all p-ellipses (or Lamé curves), the p-circle encloses the most first-quadrant lattice points as the radius approaches infinity, for 1<p<∞. The case p=2 corresponds to minimization of high eigenvalues of the Dirichlet Laplacian on rectangles, and so our work generalizes a result of Antunes and Freitas. Similarly, we generalize a Neumann eigenvalue maximization result of van den Berg, Bucur and Gittins. Further, Ariturk and Laugesen recently handled 0<p<1 by building on our results here. The case p=1 remains open, and is closely related to minimizing energy levels of harmonic oscillators: which right triangles in the first quadrant with two sides along the axes will enclose the most lattice points, as the area tends to infinity?
