In this paper we study the Euler-Poincar\'{e} equations in $\Bbb R^N$. We prove local existence of weak solutions in $W^{2,p}(\Bbb R^N),$ $p>N$, and local existence of unique classical solutions in $H^k (\Bbb R^N)$, $k>N/2+3$, as well as a blow-up criterion. For the zero dispersion equation($\alpha=0$) we prove a finite time blow-up of the classical solution. We also prove that as the dispersion parameter vanishes, the weak solution converges to a solution of the zero dispersion equation with sharp rate as $\alpha\to0$, provided that the limiting solution belongs to $C([0, T);H^k(\Bbb R^N))$ with $k>N/2 +3$. For the {\em stationary weak solutions} of the Euler-Poincar\'{e} equations we prove a Liouville type theorem. Namely, for $\alpha>0$ any weak solution $\mathbf{u}\in H^1(\Bbb R^N)$ is $\mathbf{u}=0$; for $\alpha=0$ any weak solution $\mathbf{u}\in L^2(\Bbb R^N)$ is $\mathbf{u}=0$.

We study the limiting probability distribution of the homogenization error for second order elliptic equations in divergence form with highly oscillatory periodic conductivity coefficients and highly oscillatory stochastic potential. The effective conductivity coefficients are the same as those of the standard periodic homogenization, and the effective potential is given by the mean. We show that the limiting distribution of the random part of the homogenization error, as random elements in proper Hilbert spaces, is Gaussian and can be characterized by the homogenized Green's function, the homogenized solution and the statistics of the random potential. This generalizes previous results in the setting with slowly varying diffusion coefficients, and the current setting with fast oscillations in the differential operator requires new methods to prove compactness of the probability distributions of the random fluctuation.

Published in 1999, Christodoulou proved that the naked singularities of a self-gravitating scalar field are not stable in spherical symmetry and therefore the cosmic censorship conjecture is true in this context. The original proof is by contradiction and sharp estimates are obtained strictly depending on spherical symmetry. In this paper, appropriate a priori estimates for the solution are obtained. These estimates are more relaxed but sufficient for giving another robust argument in proving the instability, in particular not by contradiction. In a companion paper, we are able to prove certain instability theorems of the spherically symmetric naked singularities of a scalar field under gravitational perturbations without symmetries. The argument given in this paper plays a central role.

We prove that classical solution of the spatially inhomogeneous and angular non-cutoff Boltzmann equation is C with respect to all variables, locally in the space and time variables. The proof relies on a generalized uncertainty principle, some improved upper bound and coercivity estimates on the nonlinear collision operator, and some subtle analysis on the commutators between the collision operators and some appropriately chosen pseudo-differential operators. This work is devoted to the study of the foundations of quantum K-theory, a K-theoretic version of quantum cohomology theory. In particular, it gives a deformation of the ordinary K-ring K(X) of a smooth projective variety X, analogous to the relation between quantum cohomology and ordinary cohomology. This new quantum product also gives a new class of Frobenius manifolds.
