Quantum Fourier analysis is a subject that combines an algebraic Fourier transform (pictorial in the case of subfactor theory) with analytic estimates. This provides interesting tools to investigate phenomena such as quantum symmetry. We establish bounds on the quantum Fourier transform F, as a map between suitably defined L^p spaces, leading to an uncertainty principle for relative entropy. We cite several applications of quantum Fourier analysis in subfactor theory, in category theory, and in quantum information. We suggest a topological inequality, and we outline several open problems.

In this paper, we give the sharp upper bound for the number of vertices with positive curvature in a planar graph with nonnegative combinatorial curvature. Based on this, we show that the automorphism group of a planar—possibly infinite—graph with nonnegative combinatorial curvature and positive total curvature is a finite group, and give an upper bound estimate for the order of the group.

We consider the Schrödinger equation with a nondispersive logarithmic nonlinearity and a repulsive harmonic potential. For a suitable range of the coefficients, there exist two positive stationary solutions, each one generating a continuous family of solitary waves. These solutions are Gaussian, and turn out to be orbitally unstable. We also discuss the notion of ground state in this setting: for any natural definition, the set of ground states is empty.

Period mappings were introduced in the sixties [G] to study variation of complex structures of families of algebraic varieties. The theory of tautological systems was introduced recently [LSY,LY] to understand period integrals of algebraic manifolds. In this paper, we give an explicit construction of a tautological system for each component of a period mapping.

We show that the dynamics of automorphisms on all projective complex manifolds X (of dimension 3, or of any dimension but assuming the Good Minimal Model Program or Mori’s Program) are canonically built up from the dynamics on just three types of projective complex manifolds: complex tori, weak Calabi-Yau manifolds and rationally connected manifolds. As a by-product, we confirm the conjecture of Guedj [20] for automorphisms on 3-dimensional projective manifolds, and also determine π1(X).
