Merit function approach is a popular method to deal with complementarity problems, in which the complementarity problem is recast as an unconstrained minimization via merit function or complementarity function. In this paper, for the complementarity problem associated with <i>p</i>-order cone, which is a type of nonsymmetric cone complementarity problem, we show the readers how to construct merit functions for solving <i>p</i>-order cone complementarity problem. In addition, we study the conditions under which the level sets of the corresponding merit functions are bounded, and we also assert that these merit functions provide an error bound for the <i>p</i>-order cone complementarity problem. These results build up a theoretical basis for the merit method for solving <i>p</i>-order cone complementarity problem.

This paper develops a novel computational technique to define and construct manifold splines with only one singular point by employing the rigorous mathematical theory of Ricci flow. The central idea and new computational paradigm of manifold splines are to systematically extend the algorithmic pipeline of spline surface construction from any planar domain to an arbitrary topology. As a result, manifold splines can unify planar spline representations as their special cases. Despite its earlier success, the existing manifold spline framework is plagued by the topology-dependent, large number of singular points (ie,| 2 g 2| for any genus-g surface), where the analysis of surface behaviors such as continuity remains extremely difficult. In this paper, we show that there is a Cantor set of initial conditions in the planar 4‑body problem such that all four bodies escape to infinity in a finite time, avoiding collisions. This proves the Painlevé conjecture for the 4‑body case, and thus settles the last open case of the conjecture.
