The present article surmmarizes our recent results about Calabi–Yau threefolds with infinite fundamental group. This class of Calabi–Yau manifolds is relatively simple yet rich enough to display the essential complexities of Calabi–Yau geometries, and thus it provides good testing-grounds for general theories and conjectures.

We consider the solution of large-scale discrete-time algebraic Riccati equations with numerically low-ranked solutions. The structure-preserving doubling algorithm will be adapted, with the iterates for A not explicitly computed but in the recursive form Ak= A2 k 1 D (1) k

We prove rigidity results for a class of non-uniformly hyperbolic holomorphic maps. If a holomorphic Collet-Eckmann map$f$is topologically conjugate to a holomorphic map$g$, then the conjugacy can be improved to be quasiconformal. If there is only one critical point in the repeller, then$g$is Collet-Eckmann, too.

Motivated by the work of Candelas, de la Ossa and Rodriguez-Villegas [6], we study the relations between Hasse-Witt matrices and period integrals of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in both toric varieties and partial flag varieties. We prove a conjecture by Vlasenko [23] on higher Hasse-Witt matrices for toric hypersurfaces following Katz's method of local expansion [14, 15]. The higher Hasse-Witt matrices also have close relation with period integrals. The proof gives a way to pass from Katz's congruence relations in terms of expansion coefficients [15] to Dwork's congruence relations [8] about periods.
