The geometry arising from Michelson &amp; Strominger's study of =4<i>B</i> supersymmetric quantum mechanics with superconformal <i>D</i>(2, 1; )-symmetry is a hyperKhler manifold with torsion (HKT) together with a special homothety. It is shown that different parameters are related via changes in potentials for the HKT target spaces. For 0, 1, we describe how each such HKT manifold <i>M</i> ^<i>4m</i> is derived from a space <i>N</i> ^<i>4m4</i> which is quaternionic Khler with torsion and carries an Abelian instanton.

We consider a graph G and a covering G of G and we study the relations of their eigenvalues and heat kernels. We evaluate the heat kernel for an infinite k-regular tree and we examine the heat kernels for general k-regular graphs. In medical imaging, parameterized 3-D surface models are useful for anatomical modeling and visualization, statistical comparisons of anatomy, and surface-based registration and signal processing. Here we introduce a parameterization method based on Riemann surface structure, which uses a special curvilinear net structure (conformal net) to partition the surface into a set of patches that can each be conformally mapped to a parallelogram. The resulting surface subdivision and the parameterizations of the components are intrinsic and stable (their solutions tend to be smooth functions and the boundary conditions of the Dirichlet problem can be enforced). Conformal parameterization also helps transform partial differential equations (PDEs) that may be defined on 3-D brain surface manifolds to modified PDEs on a two-dimensional parameter domain. We review some recent developments in Chern-Simons theory on a hyperbolic 3-manifold M with complex gauge group G. We focus on the case G=SL(N,C) and with M a knot complement. The main result presented in this note is the cluster partition function, a computational tool that uses cluster algebra techniques to evaluate the Chern-Simons path integral. We also review various applications and open questions regarding the cluster partition function and some of its relation with string theory.

The goal of this chapter is an attempt to relate some ideas of Grothendieck in his Esquisse dun programme [10] and some of the recent results on 2-dimensional topology and geometry. Especially, we shall discuss Teichmller theory, the mapping class groups, the SL (2, C) representation variety of surface groups, and Thurstons theory of measured laminations.
