In this paper we give quantitative local test vectors for Waldspurger's period integral (i.e., a toric period on GL_2) in new cases with joint ramifications. The construction involves minimal vectors, rather than newforms and their variants. This paper gives a uniform treatment for the matrix algebra and division algebra cases under mild assumptions, and establishes an explicit relation between the size of the local integral and the finite conductor C(π×π_{χ^{−1}}). As an application, we combine the test vector results with the relative trace formula, and prove a hybrid type subconvexity bound which can be as strong as the Weyl bound in proper range.

In this paper, we develop a discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method to solve the ideal special relativistic hydrodynamics (RHD) and design a bound-preserving (BP) limiter for this scheme by extending the idea in (X. Zhang and C.-W. Shu, Journal of Computational Physics, 229 (2010), 8918-8934). For RHD, the density and pressure are positive and the velocity is bounded by the speed of light. One difficulty in numerically solving the RHD in its conservative form is that the failure of preserving these physical bounds will result in ill-posedness of the problem and blowup of the code, especially in extreme relativistic cases. The standard way in dealing with this difficulty is to add extra numerical dissipation, while in doing so there is no guarantee in maintaining the high order of accuracy. Our BP limiter has the following features. It can theoretically guarantee to preserve the physical bounds for the numerical solution and maintain its designed high order accuracy. The limiter is local to the cell and hence is very easy to implement. Moreover, it renders $L^1$-stability to the numerical scheme. Numerical experiments are performed to demonstrate the good performance of this bound-preserving DG scheme. Even though we only discuss the BP limiter for DG schemes, it can be applied to high order finite volume schemes, such as weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) finite volume schemes as well.

Comparing DNA and protein sequence groups plays an important role in biological evolutionary relationship research. Despite many methods available for sequence comparison, only a few can be used for group comparison. In this study, we propose a novel approach using convex hulls. We use statistical information contained within the sequences to represent each sequence as a point in high dimensional space. We find that the points belonging to one biological group are located in a different region of space than points belonging to other biological groups. To be more precise, the convex hull of the points from one group are disjoint from the convex hulls of points from other groups. This finding allows us to do phylogenetic analysis for groups in an efficient way. Five different theorems are presented for checking whether two convex hulls intersect or are disjoint. Test results for datasets related to HRV, HPV, Ebolavirus, PKC and protein phosphatase domains demonstrate that our method performs well and provides a new tool for studying group phylogeny. More significantly, the convex analysis presents a new way to search for sequences belonging to a biological group by examining points within the group’s convex hull.

Let M be a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold whose sectional curvature is bounded between two constants-k and K. Then one expects that the heat diffusion in such a manifold behaves like the heat diffusion in Euclidean space. The purpose of this paper is to give a justi-fication of such a statement.
