In this note we establish some general finiteness results concerning lattices Γ in connected Lie groups$G$which possess certain “density” properties (see$Moskowitz$, M., On the density theorems of Borel and Furstenberg,$Ark. Mat.$$16$(1978), 11–27, and$Moskowitz$, M., Some results on automorphisms of bounded displacement and bounded cocycles,$Monatsh. Math.$$85$(1978), 323–336). For such groups we show that Γ always has finite index in its normalizer$N$_{$G$}(Γ). We then investigate analogous questions for the automorphism group Aut($G$) proving, under appropriate conditions, that Stab_{Aut($G$)}(Γ) is discrete. Finally we show, under appropriate conditions, that the subgroup $\tilde{\Gamma}=\{i_{\gamma}:\gamma \in \Gamma \},\ i_{\gamma}(x)=\gamma x\gamma^{-1}$ , of Aut($G$) has finite index in Stab_{Aut($G$)}(Γ). We test the limits of our results with various examples and counterexamples.

This note is based on a series of four lectures the author gave at University of Montpellier, September 28-30, 2015. He started with the notion of mass in general relativity, gave a brief review of some known constructions of quasi-local mass, and then discussed the new quasi-local energy and quasi-local mass which Shing-Tung Yau and the author introduced in 2009. At the end, the proof of the positivity of quasi-local energy was sketched and a stability theorem of critical points of quasi-local energy by Po-Ning Chen, Shing-Tung Yau, and the author was discussed

Skew-orthogonal polynomials (SOPs) arise in the study of the <i>n</i>-point distribution function for orthogonal and symplectic random matrix ensembles. Motivated by the average of characteristic polynomials of the Bures random matrix ensemble studied in Forrester and Kieburg (Commun Math Phys 342(1):151187, 2016), we propose the concept of <i>partial-skew-orthogonal polynomials</i> (PSOPs) as a modification of the SOPs, and then the PSOPs with a variety of special skew-symmetric kernels and weight functions are addressed. By considering appropriate deformations of the weight functions, we derive nine integrable lattices in different dimensions. As a consequence, the tau-functions for these systems are shown to be expressed in terms of Pfaffians and the wave vectors PSOPs.
