We consider the Ising model at its critical temperature with external magnetic field ha15/8 on the square lattice with lattice spacing a. We show that the truncated two-point function in this model decays exponentially with a rate independent of a as a ↓ 0. As a consequence, we show exponential decay in the near-critical scaling limit Euclidean magnetization field. For the lattice model with a = 1, the mass (inverse correlation length) is of order h8/15 as h ↓ 0; for the Euclidean field, it equals exactly Ch8/15 for some C. Although there has been much progress in the study of critical scaling limits, results on near-critical models are far fewer due to the lack of conformal invariance away from the critical point. Our arguments combine lattice and continuum FK representations, including coupled conformal loop and measure ensembles, showing that such ensembles can be useful even in the study of near-critical scaling limits. Thus we provide the first substantial application of measure ensembles.

For cable bridges, the cable tension force plays a crucial role in their construction, assessment and long-term structural health monitoring. Cable tension forces vary in real time with the change of the moving vehicle loads and environmental effects, and this continual variation in tension force may cause fatigue damage of a cable. Traditional vibration-based cable tension force estimation methods can only obtain the time-averaged cable tension force and not the instantaneous force. This paper proposes a new approach to identify the time-varying cable tension forces of bridges based on an adaptive sparse time-frequency analysis method. This is a recently developed method to estimate the instantaneous frequency by looking for the sparsest time-frequency representation of the signal within the largest possible time-frequency dictionary (i.e. set of expansion functions). In the proposed approach, first, the time-varying modal frequencies are identified from acceleration measurements on the cable, then, the time-varying cable tension is obtained from the relation between this force and the identified frequencies. By considering the integer ratios of the different modal frequencies to the fundamental frequency of the cable, the proposed algorithm is further improved to increase its robustness to measurement noise. A cable experiment is implemented to illustrate the validity of the proposed method. For comparison, the Hilbert–Huang transform is also employed to identify the time-varying frequencies, which are then used to calculate the time-varying cable-tension force. The results show that the adaptive sparse time-frequency analysis method produces more accurate estimates of the time-varying cable tension forces than the Hilbert–Huang transform method.

The human eye can perceive a vast array of colors. Whether light or dark, the colors that our eyes can see are supposedly unlimited. However, this is not the case. In reality, every image has two aspects or descriptors to it, a reflectance and an illumination. While the reflectance essentially shows an images true color, the illumination is what causes the colors to seem different to the human eye. This effect, originally discovered by Helmholtz, is known as Color Constancy. Color Constancy ensures that the color the Human Visual System (HVS) receives is the true color of the image, regardless of illumination. As a result of this effect, in 1971, Land and McCann created the Retinex theory. Using the pixels in the image, Land tried to estimate the value of the reflectances and thus reveal the true color of the image. This theory was basically a color constancy algorithm that tried to explain why colors look different when exposed to lighting. By calculating the pixels, Land was able to depict the sameness in a gradient of colors in an image. However, the algorithm is both inefficient and complicated. Following their footsteps, many other people have tried to formulate new algorithms around the Lands original Retinex algorithm. In this paper, different methods such as least squares and discrete cosine transform are explained as well as how to enhance images using both Lands idea and histogram equalization.
