We study the higher genus equivariant Gromov-Witten theory of the Hilbert scheme of n points of the plane. Since the equivariant quantum cohomology is semisimple, the higher genus theory is determined by an R-matrix via the Givental-Teleman classification of Cohomological Field Theories (CohFTs). We uniquely specify the required R-matrix by explicit data in degree 0. As a consequence, we lift the basic triangle of equivalences relating the equivariant quantum cohomology of the Hilbert scheme and the Gromov-Witten/Donaldson-Thomas correspondence for 3-fold theories of local curves to a triangle of equivalences in all higher genera. The proof uses the previously determined analytic continuation of the fundamental solution of the QDE of the Hilbert scheme. The GW/DT edge of the triangle in higher genus concerns new CohFTs defined by varying the 3-fold local curve in the moduli space of stable curves. The equivariant orbifold Gromov-Witten theory of the symmetric product of the plane is also shown to be equivalent to the theories of the triangle in all genera. The result establishes a complete case of the crepant resolution conjecture.

We introduce the concept of boundary degeneracy of topologically ordered states on a compact orientable spatial manifold with boundaries, and emphasize that the boundary degeneracy provides richer information than the bulk degeneracy. Beyond the bulk-edge correspondence, we find the ground state degeneracy of the fully gapped edge modes depends on boundary gapping conditions. By associating different types of boundary gapping conditions as different ways of particle or quasiparticle condensations on the boundary, we develop an analytic theory of gapped boundaries. By Chern-Simons theory, this allows us to derive the ground state degeneracy formula in terms of boundary gapping conditions, which encodes more than the fusion algebra of fractionalized quasiparticles. We apply our theory to Kitaev's toric code and Levin-Wen string-net models. We predict that the Z2 toric code and Z2 double-semion model (more generally, the Zk gauge theory and the U(1)k×U(1)−k non-chiral fractional quantum Hall state at even integer k) can be numerically and experimentally distinguished, by measuring their boundary degeneracy on an annulus or a cylinder.

We prove a structure theorem for any n-rectifiable set E⊂Rn+1,n≥1, satisfying a weak version of the lower ADR condition, and having locally finite Hn (n-dimensional Hausdorff) measure. Namely, that Hn-almost all of E can be covered by a countable union of boundaries of bounded Lipschitz domains contained in Rn+1∖E. As a consequence, for harmonic measure in the complement of such a set E, we establish a non-degeneracy condition which amounts to saying that Hn|E is “absolutely continuous” with respect to harmonic measure in the sense that any Borel subset of E with strictly positive Hn measure has strictly positive harmonic measure in some connected component of Rn+1∖E. We also provide some counterexamples showing that our result for harmonic measure is optimal. Moreover, we show that if, in addition, a set E as above is the boundary of a connected domain Ω⊂Rn+1 which satisfies an infinitesimal interior thickness condition, then Hn|∂Ω is absolutely continuous (in the usual sense) with respect to harmonic measure for Ω. Local versions of these results are also proved: if just some piece of the boundary is n-rectifiable then we get the corresponding absolute continuity on that piece. As a consequence of this and recent results in “Rectifiability of harmonic measure” [Geom. Funct. Anal. 26 (2016), 703–728], we can decompose the boundary of any open connected set satisfying the previous conditions in two disjoint pieces: one that is n-rectifiable where Hausdorff measure is absolutely continuous with respect to harmonic measure and another purely n-unrectifiable piece having vanishing harmonic measure.
