Genome comparison is a vital research area of bioinformatics. For large-scale genome comparisons, the Multiple Sequence Alignment (MSA) methods have been impractical to use due to its algorithmic complexity. In this study, we propose a novel alignment-free method based on the one-to-one correspondence between a DNA sequence and its complete central moment vector of the cumulative Fourier power and phase spectra. In addition, the covariance between the four nucleotides in the power and phase spectra is included. We use the cumulative Fourier power and phase spectra to define a 28-dimensional vector for each DNA sequence. Euclidean distances between the vectors can measure the dissimilarity between DNA sequences. We perform testing with datasets of different sizes and types including simulated DNA sequences, exon-intron and complete genomes. The results show that our method is more accurate and efficient for performing hierarchical clustering than other alignment-free methods and MSA methods.

One of the natural generalizations of conformal structure on a two dimensional surface is a conformally flat structure on an n-manifold. In higher dimensions, not every manifold admits such a structure and it is a difficult problem to give a good classification of conformally flat manifolds. Recall that conformally flat Riemannian manifolds are manifolds whose metrics are locally conformally equivalent to the Euclidean metric. Kuiper [Kul, Ku2] was the first to study the global properties of these manifolds. He classified those compact conformally flat manifolds with abelian fundamental group. For dimensions greater than two, the Liouville theorem tells us that the conformal transformations of S" are determined locally and are given by M6bius transformations. Let $T(S)$ be the Teichmuller space over a hyperbolic Riemann surface $S$. A geodesic disk in $T(S)$ is defined the image of an isometric embedding of the Poincar\'e disk into $T(S)$. In this paper, it is shown that for any non-Strebel point $\tau\in T(S)\backslash\{[0]\}$, there are infinitely many geodesic disks containing the straight line $\{[t\mu]:\,t\in (-1/k,1/k)\}$ where $\mu$ is an extremal representative of $\tau$ with $\|\mu\|_\infty=k$. An infinitesimal version is also obtained.

We begin by giving some results of continuity with respect to the domain for the Dirichlet problem (without any assumption of regularity on the domains). Then, following an idea of A. Beurling, a technique of subsolutions and supersolutions for the so-called quadrature surface free boundary problem is presented. This technique would apply to many free boundary problems in$R$$N$,$N$≥2, which have overdetermined Cauchy data on the free boundary. Some applications to concrete examples are also given.
