Let Δ be the closed unit disk in C, let Γ be the circle, let Π: Δ×C→Δ be projection, and let$A(Δ)$be the algebra of complex functions continuous on Δ and analytic in int Δ. Let$K$be a compact set in C^{2}such that Π($K$)=Γ, and let$K$_{λ}≠{w∈C|(λ,w)∈K}. Suppose further that (a) for every λ∈Γ,$K$_{λ}is the union of two nonempty disjoint connected compact sets with connected complement, (b) there exists a function Q(λ,w)≠(w-R(λ))^{2}-S(λ) quadratic in w with$R,S∈A(Δ)$such that for all λ∈Γ, {w∈C|Q(λ,w)=0}υ int$K$_{λ}, where$S$has only one zero in int Δ, counting multiplicity, and (c) for every λ∈Γ, the map ω→Q(λ,ω) is injective on each component of$K$_{λ}. Then we prove that К/K is the union of analytic disks 2-sheeted over int Δ, where К is the polynomial convex hull of$K$. Furthermore, we show that БК/K is the disjoint union of such disks.

In this paper, we apply the local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method to solve the classical Keller-Segel (KS) chemotaxis model. The exact solution of the KS chemotaxis model may exhibit blow-up patterns with certain initial conditions, and is not easy to approximate numerically. Moreover, it has been proved that there exists a definition of free energy of the KS system which dissipates with respect to time. We will construct a consistent numerical energy and prove the energy dissipation with the LDG discretization. Several numerical experiments in one and two space dimensions will be given. Especially, for solutions with blow-up (converge to Dirac delta functions), the densities of KS model are computed to be strictly positive in the numerical experiments and the energies are also numerically observed to be strictly positive and decreasing as are seen in the figures. Therefore, the scheme is stable for the KS model with blow-up solutions.

A self-similar measure on R^n is defined to be a probability measure satisfying \mu = \sum_{j=1}^N p_j\mu\circ S_j^{-1} + \sum_{j=1}^M q_j(\mu*\mu)\circ T_j^{-1}, where S_j x = \rho_j R_j x + b_j, T_j x = \eta_j Q_j x + c_j are contractive similarities, 0 < \rho_j < 1, 0 < \eta_j < 1/2, 0 < p_j < 1, 0 < q_j < 1; \sum_{j=1}^N p_j + \sum_{j=1}^M q_j = 1, R_j, Q_j are orthogonal matrix and \mu*\mu is the convolution of two measures. When M = 0, \mu is a linear self-similar measure, we establish the asymptotic behavior of averages of the derivative of the Fourier transform of \mu, such as \int_{|x|\le R} |(\frac{\partial}{\partial x})^\alpha \hat\mu(x)|^2 dx = O(R^{n-\beta}) for any order derivation of \hat\mu(x) as R\to\infty under certain additional hypotheses. When M > 0, \mu is a nonlinear self-similar measure, we get some results of L^p boundedness for maximal operators of l, from the pointwise asymptotic estimate of the Fourier transform of \mu made by Strichartz.

We prove the vanishing of the top Chern classes of the moduli of rank three stable vector bundles on a smooth Riemann surface. More precisely, the Chern class ci for i > 6g − 5 of the moduli spaces of rank three vector bundles of degree one and two on a genus g smooth Riemann surface all vanish. This generalizes the rank two case, conjectured by Newstead and Ramanan and proved by Gieseker.
