We propose efficient Eulerian methods for approximating the finite-time Lyapunov exponent (FTLE). The idea is to compute the related flow map using the Level Set Method and the Liouville equation. There are several advantages of the proposed approach. Unlike the usual Lagrangian-type computations, the resulting method requires the velocity field defined only at discrete locations. No interpolation of the velocity field is needed. Also, the method automatically stops a particle trajectory in the case when the ray hits the boundary of the computational domain. The computational complexity of the algorithm is <i>O</i>(<i>x</i>^(<i>d</i>+1)) with <i>d</i> the dimension of the physical space. Since there are the same number of mesh points in the <i>x</i><i>t</i> space, the computational complexity of the proposed Eulerian approach is optimal in the sense that each grid point is visited for only <i>O</i>(1) time. We also extend the algorithm to compute the FTLE

We exhibit a transformation taking special Lagrangian submanifolds of a Calabi-Yau together with local systems to vector bundles over the mirror manifold with connections obeying deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills equations. That is, the transformation relates supersymmetric A- and Bcycles. In this paper, we assume that the mirror pair are dual torus fibrations with flat tori and that the A-cycle is a section. We also show that this transformation preserves the (holomorphic) Chern-Simons functional for all connections. Furthermore, on corresponding moduli spaces of supersymmetric cycles it identifies the graded tangent spaces and the holomorphic m-forms. In particular, we verify Vafa’s mirror conjecture with bundles in this special case.

We develop some results from [4] on the positivity of direct image bundles in the particular case of a trivial ¯bration over a one-dimensional base. We also apply the results to study variations of KÄahler metrics.

In this paper we prove a well-posedness result for the Cauchy problem. We study a class of first order hyperbolic differential [2] operators of rank zero on an involutive submanifold of$T$^{*}$R$^{$n$+1}-{0} and prove that under suitable assumptions on the symmetrizability of the lifting of the principal symbol to a natural blow up of the “singular part” of the characteristic set, the operator is strongly hyperbolic.
