We study a semilinear elliptic equation of the form $$ - \Delta u + u = f(x,u), u \in H_0^1 (\Omega ),$$ where$f$is continuous, odd in$u$and satisfies some (subcritical) growth conditions. The domain Ω⊂R^{N}is supposed to be an unbounded domain ($N$≥3). We introduce a class of domains, called strongly asymptotically contractive, and show that for such domains Ω, the equation has infinitely many solutions.

A very simple and efficient finite element method is introduced for two and three dimensional viscous incompressible flows using the vorticity formulation. This method relies on recasting the traditional finite element method in the spirit of the high order accurate finite difference methods introduced by the authors in another work. Optimal accuracy of arbitrary order can be achieved using standard finite element or spectral elements. The method is convectively stable and is particularly suited for moderate to high Reynolds number flows.

Firstly, a formal correspondence is established between the CamassaHolm (CH) equation and a two-component modified CH (or called SQQ) equation according to the method of <i>moment modification</i> for multipeakon formulae. Secondly, based on the generalized nonisospectral CH equation in Chang et al. (2014) [14] and the interlacing multipeakons of the two-component modified CH equation in Chang et al. (2016) [15], we propose a new generalized two-component modified CH equation with two parameters, which possesses a nonisospectral Lax pair. The proposed equation still admits multipeakon solutions of explicit and closed form. Sufficient conditions for global existence of solutions are given and two concrete examples with certain interesting phenomenon are presented. Last of all, as a by-product, a generalized nonisospectral modified CH equation is deduced, together with its Lax pair.
