Motivated by a model proposed by Peng et al. [Advances in Coll. and Interf. Sci. 206 (2014)] for break-up of tear films on human eyes, we study the dynamics of a generalized thin film model. The governing equations form a fourth-order coupled system of nonlinear parabolic PDE for the film thickness and salt concentration subject to nonconservative effects representing evaporation. We analytically prove the global existence of solutions to this model with mobility exponents in several different ranges and the results are then validated against PDE simulations. We also numerically capture other interesting dynamics of the model, including finite-time rupture-shock phenomenon due to the instabilities caused by locally elevated evaporation rates, convergence to equilibrium and infinite-time thinning.

In this paper we study classification of homogeneous solutions to the stationary Euler equation with locally finite energy. Written in the form $\bu = \n^\perp \Psi$, $\Psi(r,\th) = r^{\l} \psi(\th)$, for $\l >0$, we show that only trivial solutions exist in the range $0<\l<1/2$, i.e. parallel shear and rotational flows. In other cases many new solutions are exhibited that have hyperbolic, parabolic and elliptic structure of streamlines. In particular, for $\l>9/2$ the number of different non-trivial elliptic solutions is equal to the cardinality of the set $(2,\sqrt{2\l}) \cap \N$. The case $\l = 2/3$ is relevant to Onsager's conjecture. We underline the reasons why no anomalous dissipation of energy occurs for such solutions despite their critical Besov regularity $1/3$.

For autonomous Tonelli systems on $\R^n$, we develop an intrinsic proof of the existence of generalized characteristics using sup-convolutions. This approach, together with convexity estimates for the fundamental solution, leads to new results such as the global propagation of singularities along generalized characteristics.

We address the topology of the set of singularities of a solution of a Hamilton-Jacobi equation. For this we will apply the idea of the first two authors (Generalized characteristic and Lax-Oleinik operators: global result, preprint, arXiv:1605.07581, 2016.) to use the positive Lax-Oleinik semi-group to propagate singularities. {\it To cite this article: P. It is well-known that in Banach spaces with finite cotype, the $R$ -bounded and $\gamma $ -bounded families of operators coincide. If in addition $X$ is a Banach lattice, then these notions can be expressed as square function estimates. It is also clear that $R$ -boundedness implies $\gamma $ -boundedness. In this note we show that all other possible inclusions fail. Furthermore, we will prove that $R$ -boundedness is stable under taking adjoints if and only if the underlying space is $K$ -convex.
