We investigate the fractional Schrödinger equation with a periodic PT-symmetric potential. In the inverse space, the problem transfers into a first-order nonlocal frequency-delay partial differential equation. We show that at a critical point, the band structure becomes linear and symmetric in the one-dimensional case, which results in a nondiffracting propagation and conical diffraction of input beams. If only one channel in the periodic potential is excited, adjacent channels become uniformly excited along the propagation direction, which can be used to generate laser beams of high power and narrow width. In the two-dimensional case, there appears conical diffraction that depends on the competition between the fractional Laplacian operator and the PT-symmetric potential. This investigation may find applications in novel on-chip optical devices.

Let G = (V, E) be a locally finite graph, whose measure μ(x) has positive lower bound, and Δ be the usual graph Laplacian. Applying the mountain-pass theorem due to Ambrosetti and Rabinowitz (1973), we establish existence results for some nonlinear equations, namely Δu + hu = f(x, u), x ∈ V. In particular, we prove that if h and f satisfy certain assumptions, then the above-mentioned equation has strictly positive solutions. Also, we consider existence of positive solutions of the perturbed equation Δu + hu = f(x, u) + ϵg. Similar problems have been extensively studied on the Euclidean space as well as on Riemannian manifolds.

This work is devoted to study the global behavior of viscous flows contained in a symmetric domain with complete slip boundary. In such scenario the boundary no longer provides friction and therefore the perturbation of angular velocity lacks decaying structure. In fact, we show the existence of uniformly rotating solutions as steady states for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. By manipulating the conservation law of angular momentum, we establish a suitable Korn's type inequality to control the perturbation and show the asymptotic stability of the uniformly rotating solutions with small angular velocity. In particular, the initial perturbation which preserves the angular momentum would decay exponentially in time and the solution to the Navier-Stokes equations converges to the steady state as time grows up.

We construct bounded classical solutions of the Boltzmann equation in the whole space without specifying any limit behaviors at the spatial infinity and without assuming the smallness condition on initial data. More precisely, we show that if the initial data is non-negative and belongs to a uniformly local Sobolev space in the space variable with Maxwellian type decay property in the velocity variable, then the Cauchy problem of the Boltzmann equation possesses a unique non-negative local solution in the same function space, both for the cutoff and non-cutoff collision cross section with mild singularity. The known solutions such as solutions on the torus (space periodic solutions) and in the vacuum (solutions vanishing at the spatial infinity), and solutions in the whole space having a limit equilibrium state at the spatial infinity are included in our category.

We consider the theory of correctors to homogenization in stationary transport equations with rapidly oscillating, random coefficients. Let ε << 1 be the ratio of the correlation length in the random medium to the overall distance of propagation. As ε↓0, we show that the heterogeneous transport solution is well-approximated by a homogeneous transport solution. We then show that the rescaled corrector converges in (probability) distribution and weakly in the space and velocity variables, to a Gaussian process as an application of a central limit result. The latter result requires strong assumptions on the statistical structure of randomness and is proved for random processes constructed by means of a Poisson point process.
