We establish the no trade principle, ie, the no trade theorem and its converse, for any dual pair of bet and extended belief spaces, defined on a given measurable space. A key condition is that, except perhaps one of the agents, everyone else has (weak*) compact sets of beliefs. We find out that in most of the models of uncertainty adopted in the economic literature, roughly speaking, the epistemic statement that an agent has a compact set of beliefs is equivalent to the economic statement that he has an open cone of positive bets. This improves our understanding of what compactness actually means within an economic context.

In this paper, we try to attack a conjecture of Araujo and Jarosz that every bijective linear map between C-algebras, with both and its inverse 1 preserving zero products, arises from an algebra isomorphism followed by a central multiplier. We show it is true for CCR C-algebras with Hausdorff spectrum, and in general, some special C-algebras associated to continuous fields of C-algebras.

We introduce the Jordan product associated with the second-order cone K into the real Hilbert space H, and then define a one-parametric class of complementarity functions t on H H with the parameter t[0, 2). We show that the squared norm of t with t(0, 2) is a continuously F (rchet)-differentiable merit function. By this, the second-order cone complementarity problem (SOCCP) in H can be converted into an unconstrained smooth minimization problem involving this class of merit functions, and furthermore, under the monotonicity assumption, every stationary point of this minimization problem is shown to be a solution of the SOCCP.

It has been a successful practice to define a canonical pre-ordering on a normed space using the inclusion of faces of its closed dual unit ball. This pre-ordering reflects some geometric property in a natural way. In this article, we will give an algebraic description of this pre-ordering in the case of complex C*-algebras as well as that of their self-adjoint parts. In developing our theory we introduce the essential support of an element, which is closely related to the notion of peak projections studied recently by Blecher and Hay. As applications, we give some interesting facts about weak*-closed faces, and will identify the quasi-maximal elements and the quasi-minimal elements with respects to this pre-ordering. They are closely related to the extreme points and the smooth points of the unit sphere of the C*-algebra.

In this paper, let E be a reflexive and strictly convex Banach space which either is uniformly smooth or has a weakly continuous duality map. We consider the hybrid viscosity approximation method for finding a common fixed point of an infinite family of nonexpansive mappings in E. We prove the strong convergence of this method to a common fixed point of the infinite family of nonexpansive mappings, which solves a variational inequality on their common fixed point set. We also give a weak convergence theorem for the hybrid viscosity approximation method involving an infinite family of nonexpansive mappings in a Hilbert space. MSC:47H17, 47H09, 47H10, 47H05.
