We propose a simple and efficient finite-difference method for the incompressible MHD equation. The numerical method combines the advantage of the MAC scheme for the Navier–Stokes equation and Yee's scheme for the Maxwell equation. In particular, the semi-discrete version of our scheme introduces no numerical dissipation and preserves the energy identity exactly.

In this paper, we consider the time dependent Maxwell’s equations in dispersive media on a bounded three-dimensional domain. Global superconvergence is obtained for semi-discrete mixed finite element methods for three most popular dispersive media models: the isotropic cold plasma, the one-pole Debye medium, and the two-pole Lorentz medium. Global superconvergence for a standard finite element method is also presented. To our best knowledge, this is the first superconvergence analysis obtained for Maxwell’s equations when dispersive media are involved.

In this paper, we propose a model reduction method for solving multiscale elliptic PDEs with random coefficients in the multiquery setting using an optimization approach. The optimization approach enables us to construct a set of localized multiscale data-driven stochastic basis functions that give an optimal approximation property of the solution operator. Our method consists of the offline and online stages. In the offline stage, we construct the localized multiscale data-driven stochastic basis functions by solving an optimization problem. In the online stage, using our basis functions, we can efficiently solve multiscale elliptic PDEs with random coefficients with relatively small computational costs. Therefore, our method is very efficient in solving target problems with many different force functions. The convergence analysis of the proposed method is also presented and has been verified by the numerical simulations.

In [H. Guo, Q. Zhang, J. Wang, Applied Mathematics and Computation, 259 (2015), 88-105], a nonconservative local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method for both flow and transport equations was introduced for the one-dimensional coupled system of compressible miscible displacement problem. In this paper, we will continue our effort and develop a conservative LDG method for the problem in two space dimensions. Optimal error estimates in $L^{\infty}(0, T; L^{2})$ norm for not only the solution itself but also the auxiliary variables will be derived. The main difficulty is how to treat the inter-element discontinuities of two independent solution variables (one from the flow equation and the other from the transport equation) at cell interfaces. Numerical experiments will be given to confirm the accuracy and efficiency of the scheme.
