The purpose of this paper is to investigate the problem of finding a common element of the set of fixed points <i>F</i>(<i>S</i>) of a nonexpansive mapping <i>S</i> and the set of solutions _<i>A</i> of the variational inequality for a monotone, Lipschitz continuous mapping <i>A</i>. We introduce a hybrid extragradient-like approximation method which is based on the well-known extragradient method and a hybrid (or outer approximation) method. The method produces three sequences which are shown to converge strongly to the same common element of {F(S)\cap\Omega_{A}}. As applications, the method provides an algorithm for finding the common fixed point of a nonexpansive mapping and a pseudocontractive mapping, or a common zero of a monotone Lipschitz continuous mapping and a maximal monotone mapping.

This paper studies model selection consistency for high dimensional sparse regression when data exhibits both cross-sectional and serial dependency. Most commonly-used model selection methods fail to consistently recover the true model when the covariates are highly correlated. Motivated by econometric studies, we consider the case where covariate dependence can be reduced through factor model, and propose a consistent strategy named Factor-Adjusted Regularized Model Selection (FarmSelect). By separating the latent factors from idiosyncratic components, we transform the problem from model selection with highly correlated covariates to that with weakly correlated variables. Model selection consistency as well as optimal rates of convergence are obtained under mild conditions. Numerical studies demonstrate the nice finite sample performance in terms of both model selection and out-of-sample prediction. Moreover, our method is flexible in a sense that it pays no price for weakly correlated and uncorrelated cases. Our method is applicable to a wide range of high dimensional sparse regression problems. An R-package FarmSelect is also provided for implementation.

We study some arithmetic properties of the mirror maps and the quantum Yukawa couplings for some 1-parameter deformations of Calabi-Yau manifolds. First we use the Schwarzian differential equation, which we derived previously, to characterize the mirror map in each case. For algebraic K3 surfaces, we solve the equation in terms of the<i>J</i>-function. By deriving explicit modular relations we prove that some K3 mirror maps are algebraic over the genus zero function field<b>Q</b>(<i>J</i>). This leads to a uniform proof that those mirror maps have integral Fourier coefficients. Regarding the maps as Riemann mappings, we prove that they are genus zero functions. By virtue of the Conway-Norton conjecture (proved by Borcherds using Frenkel-Lepowsky-Meurman's Moonshine module), we find that these maps are actually the reciprocals of the Thompson series for certain conjugacy classes in the Griess-Fischer group

We prove that classical solution of the spatially inhomogeneous and angular non-cutoff Boltzmann equation is C with respect to all variables, locally in the space and time variables. The proof relies on a generalized uncertainty principle, some improved upper bound and coercivity estimates on the nonlinear collision operator, and some subtle analysis on the commutators between the collision operators and some appropriately chosen pseudo-differential operators. In the present paper, we prove the 2-part of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for an explicit infinite family of rank 0 quadratic twists of the modular elliptic curve χ_0(14), using an explicit form of the Waldspurger formula. We also give an explicit infinite family of rank 1 quadratic twists of χ_0(14) whose Tate–Shafarevich group is of odd cardinality.
