This work proposes a novel metric based algorithm for quadrilateral mesh generating. Each quad-mesh induces a Riemannian metric satisfying special conditions: the metric is a flat metric with cone singularities conformal to the original metric, the total curvature satisfies the Gauss–Bonnet condition, the holonomy group is a subgroup of the rotation group $\{e^{ik\pi/2}\}$, there is cross field obtained by parallel translation which is aligned with the boundaries, and its streamlines are finite geodesics. Inversely, such kind of metric induces a quad-mesh. Based on discrete Ricci flow and conformal structure deformation, one can obtain a metric satisfying all the conditions and obtain the desired quad-mesh. This method is rigorous, simple and automatic. Our experimental results demonstrate the efficiency and efficacy of the algorithm.

It is well known that the second-order cone and the circular cone have many analogous properties. In particular, there exists an important distance inequality associated with the second-order cone and the circular cone. The inequality indicates that the distances of arbitrary points to the second-order cone and the circular cone are equivalent, which is crucial in analyzing the tangent cone and normal cone for the circular cone. In this paper, we provide an alternative approach to achieve the aforementioned inequality. Although the proof is a bit longer than the existing one, the new approach offers a way to clarify when the equality holds. Such a clarification is helpful for further study of the relationship between the second-order cone programming problems and the circular cone programming problems.

In this paper, we illustrate a new concept regarding unitary elements defined on Lorentz cone, and establish some basic properties under the so-called unitary transformation associated with Lorentz cone. As an application of unitary transformation, we achieve a weaker version of the triangle inequality and several (weak) majorizations defined on Lorentz cone.

In this paper, we consider a family of neural networks for solving nonlinear complementarity problems (NCP). The neural networks are constructed from the merit functions based on three classes of NCP-functions: the generalized natural residual function and its two symmetrizations. In this paper, we first characterize the stationary points of the induced merit functions. Growth behavior of the complementarity functions is also described, as this will play an important role in describing the level sets of the merit functions. In addition, the stability of the steepest descent-based neural network model for NCP is analyzed. We provide numerical simulations to illustrate the theoretical results, and also compare the proposed neural networks with existing neural networks based on other well-known NCP-functions. Motivation and basic concepts In this note, we consider two signomial functions whose convexity play important roles in some recent papers [4, 6, 7, 8, 9] dealing with geometric programming problems. However, the verifications therein contain some certain flaws and those incorrect arguments are repeatedly appeared and cited. From point of scientific researchs view, we hereby provide correct proofs for them.
