We establish mean curvature estimate for immersed hypersurface with nonnegative extrinsic scalar curvature in Riemannian manifold $(N^{n+1}, \bar g)$ through regularity study of a degenerate fully nonlinear curvature equation in general Riemannian manifold. The estimate has a direct consequence for the Weyl isometric embedding problem of $(\mathbb S^2, g)$ in $3$-dimensional warped product space $(N^3, \bar g)$. We also discuss isometric embedding problem in spaces with horizon in general relativity, like the Anti-de Sitter-Schwarzschild manifolds and the Reissner-Nordstr\"om manifolds.

We prove that weak solutions to the obstacle problem for the porous medium equation are locally Hölder continuous, provided that the obstacle is Hölder continuous.

Abstract In this paper, we provide an alternative proof for the classical Sz. The Euler–Lagrange equation for critical points of in the non-negative radial decreasing function space is given by a free boundary problem for a generalized Lane–Emden equation, which has a unique solution (denoted by h c ) and the solution determines the best constant for the above generalized Sz. Nagy inequality. The connection between the critical mass for the thin-film equation and the best constant of the Sz. Nagy inequality in one dimension was first noted by Witelski et al (2004 Eur. J. Appl. Math. 15 223–56). For the following critical thin film equation in multi-dimension ht+6366(h 63Δh)+6366(h 63hm)=0,x∈Rd, where m = 1 + 2/d, the critical mass is also given by . A finite time blow-up occurs for solutions with the initial mass larger than M c . Given a compact Riemannian manifold $M$, we consider a warped product manifold $\bar M = I \times_h M$, where $I$ is an open interval in $\Bbb R$. For a positive function $\psi$ defined on $\bar M$, we generalize the arguments in \cite{GRW2015} and \cite{RW16}, to obtain the curvature estimates for Hessian equations $\sigma_k(\kappa)=\psi(V,\nu(V))$. We also obtain some existence results for the starshaped compact hypersurface $\Sigma$ satisfying the above equation with various assumptions.
