We present a domain decomposition method on a semilinear hyperbolic system with multiple relaxation times. In the region where the relaxation time is small, an asymptotic equilibrium equation can be used for computational efficiency. An interface condition based on the sign of the characteristic speed at the interface is provided to couple the two systems in a domain decomposition setting. A rigorous analysis, based on the Laplace Transform, on the $ L^2$ error estimate is presented for the linear case, which shows how the error of the domain decomposition method depends on the smaller relaxation time, and the boundary and interface layer effects. The given convergence rate is optimal. We present a numerical implementation of this domain decomposition method, and give some numerical results in order to study the performance of this method.

This work is devoted to study the global behavior of viscous flows contained in a symmetric domain with complete slip boundary. In such scenario the boundary no longer provides friction and therefore the perturbation of angular velocity lacks decaying structure. In fact, we show the existence of uniformly rotating solutions as steady states for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. By manipulating the conservation law of angular momentum, we establish a suitable Korn's type inequality to control the perturbation and show the asymptotic stability of the uniformly rotating solutions with small angular velocity. In particular, the initial perturbation which preserves the angular momentum would decay exponentially in time and the solution to the Navier-Stokes equations converges to the steady state as time grows up.

G-equations are well-known front propagation models in turbulent combustion which describe the front motion law in the form of local normal velocity equal to a constant (laminar speed) plus the normal projection of fluid velocity. In level set formulation, G-equations are HamiltonJacobi equations with convex (<i>L</i> ¹ type) but non-coercive Hamiltonians. Viscous G-equations arise from either numerical approximations or regularizations by small diffusion. The nonlinear eigenvalue $${\bar H}$$ from the cell problem of the viscous G-equation can be viewed as an approximation of the inviscid turbulent flame speed <i>s</i> _T. An important problem in turbulent combustion theory is to study properties of <i>s</i> _T, in particular how <i>s</i> _T depends on the flow amplitude <i>A</i>. We consider a strictly hyperbolic, genuinely nonlinear system of conservation laws in one space dimension. A sharp decay estimate is proved for the positive waves in an entropy weak solution. The result is stated in terms of a partial ordering among positive measures, using symmetric rearrangements and a comparison with a solution of Burgers's equation with impulsive sources.
