In this paper, we give a condition on the bicharacteristic which guarantees the global existence of the mild solution to the Boltzmann equation with an external force for the hard-sphere model and potentials with angular cutoff in infinite vacuum. This generalizes the previous results to the case when the force can have arbitrary strength. The constructive condition on the bicharacteristic is used to obtain the pointwise estimates on the collision operator so that the global existence comes from the contraction mapping theorem.

We study the front dynamics of the bistable reaction-diffusion equations with periodic diffusion and/or convection coefficients in several space dimensions. When traveling wave solutions exist, the solutions of the initial value problem behave as wave fronts propagating with the effective speeds of traveling waves under various initial conditions. Yet due to the bistable nature of the nonlinearity, traveling waves may not always exist when the medium variations from the mean states are large enough. Their existence is closely related to the detailed forms of diffusion and convection coefficients, more so in multidimension than in one. We present a simple sufficient condition for the nonexistence of traveling waves (quenching) using perturbation method. Our two dimensional finite difference numerical computations show a variety of front behaviors, such as: the propagation, quenching and retreat of fronts. We found

We obtain sharp integral potential bounds for gradients of solutions to a wide class of quasilinear elliptic equations with measure data. Our estimates are global over bounded domains that satisfy a mild exterior capacitary density condition. They are obtained in Lorentz spaces whose degrees of integrability lie below or near the natural exponent of the operator involved. As a consequence, nonlinear Calderón–Zygmund type estimates below the natural exponent are also obtained for $\mathcal{A}$ -superharmonic functions in the whole space ℝ^{$n$}. This answers a question raised in our earlier work (On Calderón–Zygmund theory for$p$- and $\mathcal{A}$ -superharmonic functions, to appear in$Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations$, DOI10.1007/s00526-011-0478-8) and thus greatly improves the result there.

In this paper, a system of semilinear elliptic equations arising from a relativistic self-dual Maxwell-Chern-Simons O(3) sigma model is considered. We reveal the uniqueness aspect of the topological solutions for the model. The uniqueness result is associated with a clear solution structure of the equations of the radially symmetric case. From a variational perspective, we derive a series of magnetization and quantum spin current systems coupled via an “s-d” potential term, including the Schrödinger--Landau--Lifshitz--Maxwell system, the Pauli--Landau--Lifshitz system, and the Schrödinger--Landau--Lifshitz system with successive simplifications. For the latter two systems, we propose using the time splitting spectral method for the quantum spin current and the Gauss--Seidel projection method for the magnetization. Accuracy of the time splitting spectral method applied to the Pauli equation is analyzed and verified by numerous examples. Moreover, behaviors of the Schrödinger--Landau--Lifshitz system in different “s-d” coupling regimes are explored numerically.
