This work is devoted to establishing the local-in-time well-posedness of strong solutions to the three-dimensional compressible primitive equations of atmospheric dynamics. It is shown that strong solutions exist, unique, and depend continuously on the initial data, for a short time in two cases: with gravity but without vacuum, and with vacuum but without gravity. We also introduce the free boundary problem for the compressible primitive equations.

In this paper, we derive Li-Yau inequality for unbounded Laplacian on complete weighted graphs with the assumption of the curvature dimension inequality C D E(n, K), which can be regarded as a notion of curvature on graphs. Furthermore, we obtain some applications of Li-Yau inequality, including Harnack inequality, heat kernel bounds and Cheng's eigenvalue estimate. These are the first kind of results in this direction for unbounded Laplacian on graphs.

We study the convergence rate of Glimm scheme for general systems of hyperbolic conservation laws without the assumption that each characteristic field is either genuinely nonlinear or linearly degenerate. We first give a sharper estimate of the error arising from the wave tracing argument by a careful analysis of the interaction between small waves. With this key estimate, the convergence rate is shown to be o (1) s 1 3| ln s| 1+ , which is sharper compared to o (1) s 1 4| ln s| given in [T. Yang, Convergence rate of Glimm scheme for general systems of hyperbolic conservation laws, Taiwanese J. Math. 7 (2)(2003) 195205]. However, it is still slower than o (1) s 1 2| ln s| given in [A. The aim of this study is to figure out the optimization of survival probability of the generals in the card game "Legends of the Three Kingdoms". First, based on combinatorics and probability theory, the PASCAL program was performed to analyze the probabilities of success when several popular generals perform their special skills in the game. The results are as follows: Second, seven typical generals, including Zhou Tai, Zhang Jiao, Zhen Ji, Lu Xun, Ma Chao, Xiahou Dun, and Guo Jia, were chosen, and their abilities including attacking and defense were arbitrarily quantified according to a model constructed in the present study. The scores are as follows: Card-drawing Changing Attacking Defense Blood-selling Zhen Ji 5.62 Zhou Tai 1.04 Ma Chao 1.68 Xiahou Dun 1.19 Guo Jia 3.36 Lu Xun 3.55 Zhang Jiao 2.55 The abilities of different generals were sorted, and by comparison with the statistical record online, the reliability of the model was proved. Thus, the irrationality of the game is identified in this study, and we recommend the game designer to modify the abilities of some generals and to obtain an optimized value according to the output of the model, by which the game would be more popular.

We construct a solution to inverse mean curvature flow on an asymptotically hyperbolic 3-manifold which does not have the convergence properties needed in order to prove a Penrose–type inequality. This contrasts sharply with the asymptotically flat case. The main idea consists in combining inverse mean curvature flow with work done by Shi–Tam regarding boundary behavior of compact manifolds. Assuming the Penrose inequality holds, we also derive a nontrivial inequality for functions on S2.

We showed that there is a complete analogue of a representation of the quantum plane ℬq where \q\ = 1, with the classical ax+b group. We showed that the Fourier transform of the representation of ℬ-q$ on ℋ = L2(ℝ) has a limit (in the dual corepresentation) toward the Mellin transform of the unitary representation of the ax+b group, and furthermore the intertwiners of the tensor products representation has a limit toward the intertwiners of the Mellin transform of the classical ax+b representation. We also wrote explicitly the multiplicative unitary defining the quantum ax+b semigroup and showed that it defines the corepresentation that is dual to the representation of ℬq above, and also correspond precisely to the classical family of unitary representation of the ax+b group.
