We calculate a G_2-period of a Fourier coefficient of a cuspidal Eisenstein series on the split simply-connected group E_6, and relate this period to the Ginzburg-Rallis period of cusp forms on GL_6. This gives us a relation between the Ginzburg-Rallis period and the central value of the exterior cube L-function of GL_6.

We enhance the efficient congruencing method for estimating Vinogradov’s integral for moments of order 2$s$, with $${1\leqslant s\leqslant k^{2}-1}$$ . In this way, we prove the main conjecture for such even moments when $${1\leqslant s\leqslant \tfrac{1}{4}(k+1)^{2}}$$ , showing that the moments exhibit strongly diagonal behaviour in this range. There are improvements also for larger values of$s$, these finding application to the asymptotic formula in Waring’s problem.

Theorem. Let $\pi$ be a finite group of order $n$, $R$ be a Dedekind domain satisfying that (i) $\fn{char}R=0$, (ii) every prime divisor of $n$ is not invertible in $R$, and (iii) $p$ is unramified in $R$ for any prime divisor $p$ of $n$. Then all the flabby (resp.\ coflabby) $R\pi$-lattices are invertible if and only if all the Sylow subgroups of $\pi$ are cyclic. The above theorem was proved by Endo and Miyata when $R=\bm{Z}$ \cite[Theorem 1.5]{EM}. As applications of this theorem, we give a short proof and a partial generalization of a result of Torrecillas and Weigel \cite[Theorem A]{TW}, which was proved using cohomological Mackey functors.

In this paper, we reprove a global converse theorem of Cogdell and Piatetski-Shapiro using purely global methods.

We study a local multiplicity problem related to so-called generalized Shalika models. By establishing a local trace formula for these kind of models, we are able to prove a multiplicity formula for discrete series. As a result, we can show that these multiplicities are constant over every discrete Vogan L-packet and are related to local exterior square L-functions.

We establish a general Kronecker limit formula of arbitrary rank over global function fields with Drinfeld period domains playing the role of upper-half plane. The Drinfeld-Siegel units come up as equal characteristic modular forms replacing the classical $\Delta$. This leads to analytic means of deriving a Colmez-type formula for "stable Taguchi height" of CM Drinfeld modules having arbitrary rank. A Lerch-Type formula for "totally real" function fields is also obtained, with the Heegner cycle on the Bruhat-Tits buildings intervene. Also our limit formula is naturally applied to the special values of both the Rankin-Selberg L-functions and the Godement-Jacquet L-functions associated to automorphic cuspidal representations over global function fields.

The subject of counting positive lattice points in n-dimensional simplexes has interested mathematicians for decades due to its applications in singularity the- ory and number theory. Enumerating the lattice points in a right-angled simplex is equivalent to determining the geometric genus of an isolated singularity of a weighted homogeneous complex polynomial. It is also a method to shed insight into large gaps in the sequence of prime numbers. Seeking to contribute to these applications, in this paper, we prove the Yau Geometric Conjecture in six dimensions, a sharp upper bound for the number of positive lattice points in a six-dimensional tetrahedron. The main method of proof is summing existing sharp upper bounds for the number of points in 5-dimensional simplexes over the cross sections of the six-dimensional simplex. Our new results pave the way for the proof of a fully general sharp upper bound for the number of lattice points in a simplex. It also sheds new light on proving the Yau Geometric and Yau Number-Theoretic Conjectures in full generality.

For every affine variety over a global function field, we show that the set of its points with coordinates in an arbitrary rank-one multiplicative subgroup of this function field is topologically dense in the set of its points with coordinates in the topological closure of this subgroup in the product of the multiplicative group of those local completions of this function field over all but finitely many places.

The estimate of integral points in an n-dimensional polyhedron has many applications in singularity theory, number theory and toric geometry. The third named author formulated a conjecture (i.e., Yau Number Theoretic Conjecture) which gives a sharp polynomial upper estimate on the number of positive integral points in n-dimensional (n  3) real right-angled simplices. The previous results on the conjecture in low dimension cases (n  6) have been proved by using the sharp GLY conjecture. However, it is only valid in low dimension. The Yau Number Theoretic Conjecture for n = 7 has been shown with a completely new method in [22]. In this paper, on the one hand, the similar method has been applied to prove the conjecture for n = 8, but with more meticulous analyses. The main method of proof is summing existing sharp upper bounds for the number of points in seven-dimensional simplex over the cross sections of eight-dimensional simplex. This is a signicant progress since it sheds light on proving the Yau Number Theoretic Conjecture in full generality. On the other hand, we give a new sharper estimate of the Dickman-De Bruijn function (x; y) for 5  y < 23, compared with the result obtained by Ennola.

We derive an asymptotic formula which counts the number of abelian extensions of prime degrees over rational function fields. Specifically, let l be a rational prime and K a rational function field F_q(t) with l\nmid q. Let Discf (F/K) denote the finite discriminant of F over K. Denote the number of abelian l-extensions F/K with deg (Discf (F/K)) = (l − 1)αn by a_l(n), where α = α(q, l) is the order of q in the multiplicative group (Z/lZ)^\times. We give a explicit asymptotic formula for a_l(n). In the case of cubic extensions with q ≡ 2 (mod 3), our formula gives an exact analogue of Cohn’s classical formula.

A vast class of exponential functions are shown to be deterministic. This class includes functions whose exponents are polynomial-like or ``piece-wise'' close to polynomials after differentiation. Many of these functions are proved to be disjoint from the M\"obius function.

We prove a new upper bound for the dimension of the space of cohomological automorphic forms of fixed level and growing parallel weight on $\mathrm{GL}_2$ over a number field which is not totally real, improving the one obtained by Marshall. The main tool of the proof is the mod $p$ representation theory of $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ as started by Barthel-Livne and Breuil, and developed by Paskunas.

On Shimura varieties of orthogonal type over totally real fields, we prove a product formula and the modularity of Kudla’s generating series of special cycles in Chow groups.

Following the method developed by Waldspurger and Beuzart-Plessis in their proof of the local Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture, we prove a local trace formula for the Ginzburg-Rallis model. By applying this trace formula, we prove the multiplicity one theorem for the Ginzburg-Rallis model over the tempered Vogan L-packets. In some cases, we also prove the epsilon dichotomy conjecture which gives a relation between the multiplicity and the exterior cube epsilon factor. This is a sequel work of [Wan15] in which we proved the geometric side of the trace formula.

We study the structures of Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on symplectic groups based on their local and global structures related to Arthur parameters. This is a first step towards the general conjecture on the relation between the structure of Fourier coefficients and Arthur parameters for automorphic forms occurring in the discrete spectrum, given by the first named author.

We introduce a new technique for isolating components on the spectral side of the trace formula. By applying it to the Jacquet--Rallis relative trace formula, we complete the proof of the global Gan--Gross--Prasad conjecture and its refinement Ichino--Ikeda conjecture for U(n)×U(n+1) in the stablecase.

We exhibit the first examples of hyperbolic three-manifolds for which the Seiberg-Witten equations do not admit any irreducible solution. Our approach relies on hyperbolic geometry in an essential way; it combines an explicit upper bound for the first eigenvalue on coexact 1-forms λ_1^* on rational homology spheres which admit irreducible solutions together with a version of the Selberg trace formula relating the spectrum of the Laplacian on coexact 1-forms with the volume and complex length spectrum of a hyperbolic three-manifold. Using these relationships, we also provide precise numerical bounds on λ_1^* for several hyperbolic rational homology spheres.

We give an example of a dominant rational self-map of the projective plane whose dynamical degree is a transcendental number.

By applying the residue method for period integrals and Langlands-Shahidi’s theory for residues of Eisenstein series, we study the period integrals for six spherical varieties. For each spherical variety, we prove a relation between the period integrals and certain automorphic L-functions. In some cases, we also study the local multiplicity of the spherical varieties.
